With summer approaching I am wondering if there is a way I would be able to take the doors off of my wk2 for a little while. I have only seen it done on older grand cherokees but I think it would be badass to have the doors off when I am at the beach. Does anyone know if it is even possible?
I think there might be a lot to do something like that, you'd have to do something with all the wiring going into the door that supports the electronics and I think worse would be trying to properly realign the door when trying to put it back on. I have had doors off cars before many years ago and getting those things to align and sit right was never a fun or quick process. Its probably possible but seems like you'd be in for more work than the few hours of fun would be worth. But its your jeep go for it if its something you want
The Grand Cherokee was probably not designed to run without doors. Closed doors could be part of the structure that keeps everything rigid when bouncing over rough ground or in a collision or roll.
Hmmmm well y'all are trying lol. You can take the doors off and reinstall easily. Unplug from the body, check door gaps all around, remove hinge bolts and when you reinstall just snug the hinges down enough to be able to move it with some pressure. Slowly close and realign body gaps. Tighten down hinge. Pretty easy lol. I hate doors too, especially in trail rides
And as someone already mentioned, while Wrangler was designed to be able to run without doors and is body on frame, the JGC's not of the same design. Having the doors off is going to remove a lot of structural strength and could result in damage to the vehicle if things twist and creak on a "heavy" trail...or even a mild one, for that matter.
