Re: Exterior Door Lock Button: multiple presses to lock doors?

All of mine have worked great the last 2yrs but within the last month or so the rear gate stopped working completely. Anyone else have this issue and/or any idea where I should begin to look for a fix?

I had the same issues also until I figured this out.
Just use your thumb to press the button only, don't grasp the handle while locking. If you do, then it takes 2 secs to reset itself. Just wait 2 secs and push the button only.

Yes, Willden1, you were right after all! I was inadvertantly putting some of my fingers around the door handle! AAARGH!!!!

I feel a little dumb.

For a couple of days now I've kept my hand away from the handle, and sure enough the doors lock on the first press, the first time and every time.

It turned out to be use error.

LOL! I was there also.

A mechanical problem - the nut holding the door handle.

Exactly. It was a personal problem.

Anyway, am glad it wasn't the Jeep's fault.

Re: Exterior Door Lock Button: multiple presses to lock doors?

I've had the same issue several times - where my thumb is the only part of my hand touching the handle. It's happened in various weather and seems pretty random. I also have never counted how many it takes but every now and then it needs several presses. I'll have to check if it's when my phone is in the same pocket as the key next time.

Re: Exterior Door Lock Button: multiple presses to lock doors?

Interesting, about the cell phone. I'll have to pay attention to that, too.

While I did determine that I was mistakenly putting some fingers on the door handle, sometimes patly wrapped, I no longer do that. Yet, yesterday there was one time when it took several presses for the doors to lock.

Yep, same thing keeps happening to me but because I keep inadvertently touching the handle, it's very sensitive.

Re: Exterior Door Lock Button: multiple presses to lock doors?

So, it's been a few days and this problem still occurs. It has happened 3-4 times in the past week.

Yes, I keep my hand clear of the handle, and the exterior lock button does workbetter, but it is still a problem. Less of a problem, but still a problem.

Humpph!

Re: Exterior Door Lock Button: multiple presses to lock doors?

It's very sensitive, I see my lights flash when I squirt the handle while washing. Never looked to see if it's locking the doors though, gonna look next time out of curiosity.

Re: Exterior Door Lock Button: multiple presses to lock doors?

I also have noticed lately the door is not locking with a drivers side door button press and I am careful to not grasp the handle. Now to expand i have also noticed the door handle not always unlocking when grasping it and a few occasions where the brake pedal is being pressed and yet the vehicle doesn't sense it and won't start with the run button pressed.

Re: Exterior Door Lock Button: multiple presses to lock doors?

I have been trying for the past couple weeks to have my cell phone in a separate pocket, and still seem to have this issue.

I will try to be more conscious of going inside the handle, and see if it's just the handle be reset.

It might be your FOB battery is getting weak, try using the other one and see if it happens.
