Thanks I will try that next.

They dash will say no key detected if you try to start with a bad fob battery also, just as if you didn't have it with you.

I don't recall seeing that but I will make sure to check for that message if this happens again.

I've been having this problem for the last month or so. I've read this thread and made it a point to simply touch the door handle with one finger when locking, yet it still takes 3-4 presses for it to finally lock. I have no clue what is causing it.

Re: Exterior Door Lock Button: multiple presses to lock doors?

Might it be a problem with the car detecting the key fob? Try holding the key fob in the same hand you're pushing the exterior lock button with. That might help.

I'm much more careful when locking by pressing the exterior button, but occassionally it still takes 2-3 presses - very rarely.

I suspect a problem detecting the key fob because sometimes when I'm entering the car and want to start it quickly, I'm barely in the driver's seat and already pushing the brake pedal and start button, and the info message says Key Fob Not Detected. The car doesn't start, thereby delaying my quick getaway. I keep the key in my left front pocket, but I'll try holding the key fob in my right hand and see if that helps.

Re: Exterior Door Lock Button: multiple presses to lock doors?

My 2012 Limited has had this issue since I got it in Dec 2011. Dealer could not fix it. About half the time, one press will do it. Other times it takes more presses. After I started counting, the maximum was 11. It more typically takes 3 - 4.
I've noticed the same issue on the passenger side door.
New battery in the fob didn't change it.
Since reading this thread and others, I've been careful to touch only the button, but still often takes several presses.

So I am not the only one seeing this. Awesome. Mine normally takes 3-4 pushes 4 out of 5 times.

So, after more play.

I seem to have better results if I wait a beat or too after closing the door. Sometimes I'll see the turn indicator blink on the mirror. If I see that, I definitely know to wait.

I think a lot of this is hastiness, but I'm still experimenting. I've also moved my fob away from my phone. I'm tempted to move it back, though.

Re: Exterior Door Lock Button: multiple presses to lock doors?

Proximity and the ability of the car to sense the fob contribute to the situation.

Last night my wife and I got out of the car, and I was carrying a box so I asked her to press the button. It would not lock, no matter how many times she pressed it. Once I, with fob, moved close to the door, it locked.

ETA: I was within five feet of my door when she was pressing the button, like the owner's manual states, but it didn't lock until I had moved to within 2 feet of the door.

This is how mine performs as well. I wait a moment and 1-click it locks. I figured it took a moment for the truck to sense the FOB location. It would be nice if this was immediate.
