Requires you to change front and rear bumpers along with rocker panel skirts. Can be done but very expensive. I painted all of my black textured plastic to match body color. Much cheaper.

Re: Fender flares

I you like the look of Overland, then its easy and cheaper to paint the black matching to the body color.... I have done mine....

Re: Fender flares

Beesty,
I went down that path a few months ago. I looked at Sarona and talked with their people. Same sort of deal; they offered SRT compatible fender flares and it would have taken some shaping of the flares in order for them to "seamlessly" mate to my Limited front and back bumper shells. There was no way for me to get an estimate from a body shop w/o having those flares in hand, so I passed and got those ugly as shit Bushwackers. They are being installed and painted to match as we speak. Check out my earlier post HERE.

That said, I see one can get the entire SRT or SRTish bumper and fender flare body kit for about $1200-$1500. Prolly another $500-$1000 bucks for install and painting, unless you have some skilz.

I too am researching painted trim on my Limited. When I purchased it a month ago, I thought I would be content with the black trim. In retrospect, maybe I should have considered an Overland or Altitude.

To have my existing trim sanded smooth and painted to my standard would cost a fortune. It may be cheaper to buy new, unpainted Overland or Altitude trim and have it painted. Another option is to buy OE pre-painted trim, but that is pricey as well.

midsouthduckhunter, where do you find the SRT-ish kit that you reference above?

Thanks,

db

Re: Fender flares

I personally got the overland flares and had them painted to match. Pricing out sanding/prepping painting the limited ones; I wasn't too thrilled with what I saw and none of the body shops seemed overly keen or confident on doing the work by me. Rather than deal with any issues or hassle, I just got the overland ones and had them painted. Smooth and easy process and came out looking great. Wil pop them On next week when the new headlights from eagle eyes come in. Going to do a few mods all one one day.

I did get some crazy variation in paint quotes for the flares; ranging from$300-$700. So it pays to shop around a bit.

May do the front and rear trim as well in the near future. Not on the immediate to do list right now though.

Re: Fender flares

Mine is painted over the plastic black trim. Its been oven an year and i dont find any problem yet. Everything looks the same and would say a 95% match to the factory paint. Did it by myself, cost me around $500 CAD and 3 days of my time.... I got Aerosol paint,Primer,Adhesive promoter and Clear coat from US... And it wasnt that hard to do it myself.....

Link for paint. Touch Up Paint and Accessories | AutomotiveTouchup

they do have some videos on how to do on plastic and about the preparations...I found that is very helpful....

Attaching some close up pictures....

sorry its not that clean..

Nicely done! I don't have your patience or talent. I've done some smaller paint jobs on pieces from other vehicles using the products in your link, and it isn't easy.

I'm leaning towards this option as well. Did you, or will you consider doing the rockers as well? I want to do the flares, rockers, front and rear fascias, and roof antenna.

Did you buy the flares locally or on the Web?

Thanks,

db

I was going to buy the flares from JustForJeeps.com, but actually ended up getting them from a forum member who purchased but never used (were still in packaging!).

As for the other parts: I've been debating it - painting it all out will make it fairly identical to an Overland/Altitude. On the other hand, all those extra parts, their price, and paint costs adds up significantly.

2014 Overland Paintable Wheel Flares $281.12
5JQ75TZZAA Left Front Wheel Flare
5JQ76TZZAA Right Front Wheel Flare
5JQ77TZZAA Left Rear Door Wheel Flare
5JQ78TZZAA Right Rear Door Wheel Flare
5JQ79TZZAA Left Rear Quarter Panel Wheel Flare
5JQ80TZZAA Right Rear Quarter Panel Wheel Flare

2014 Overland Paintable Body Parts
1WL30TZZAC Front Lower Bumper Cover $237.60
1VQ68TZZAA Rear Lower Bumper Cover $188.10
5PU65TZZAB Left Rocker Molding $135.00
5PU66TZZAB Right Rocker Molding $115.20

And that's the cost w/o paint

Those lower area's are also really hot spots for dirt/debris/chips - so part of me is thinking I may just leave them.

My new headlights are set to be here next week, so I will pop the color matched flares on maybe the following week-end. I'll toss some pics up and see how it all looks.

For the antenna, I know a handful of forum members have purchased these from Amazon:

They don't look so bad painted, but would it be worth filling the screw holes, sanding and then respraying I wonder. Also, on the pic of one installed it looks like they won't line up with the lower front bumper or side skirts ?
