Re: Fender flares falling off

These flares have been falling off for 3 years since the 14s started rolling off the line dealers can be hit or miss on these flares, some may do ok fixing them and some turn it into a disaster. Frankly its not that hard so it baffles me why some of them turn reapplying some two sided tape into something hard and complicated. I don't really trust dealers involving any level of attention to detail so this one I just did myself. The last thing I would want is a gung-ho dealer ripping flares off ordering new ones and spraying paint everywhere over a few lifting flares, crazy. Factory finish will never be the same once you start repainting, in an accident sure you got to repaint but too many dealers are too quick to repaint when they don't need to or over very minor items. Granted some times its the customer pushing it but destroying the factory finish on entire sections of cars over a single spec of dust is just crazy in my mind but to each their own I guess.

anyway moving on from my paint rant if you have the entire flare lifting off then the two sided tape should be redone yes but if its just edges and small areas lifting and spreading then you could handle it yourself and give a shot on the way I did it which was quick and painless and solved the issue. check link below I did this a year ago and nothing lifted since. just something to try sometimes DIY makes sense

They layed perfectly BUT metallic paint done at a dealer is a bit*h to match with factory and the flares are now much darker....looks like the wells have mascara
Damn...i'm sorry man. What do you recommend i do?

Re: Fender flares falling off

Definitely will but gonna wait til late spring for best results, being that I am in Cleveland. I will be doing the precision adhesive then frog tape down routine that silvermax04 and scottina06 detailed. I am not gonna try the heat up and tape down thing as I believe the primary culprit is lack of adhesive tape close enough to the front edge.

If anyone is warmer states beats me to the write-up have at it

Just a suggestion when you are injecting the adhesive make sure the area is very dry as that tape can hold small amounts of water and you want it all out of there. Just dry it out real well maybe a hair dryer and cleaning out area with a small amount of alcohol.

Also you don't need very much adhesive just enough to soak down the lifted tape. you don't want it oozing all over as it dries somewhat hard and not that easy to clean up when dry.

The adhesive works well for small areas that are lifted and to prevent the spread of small areas turning to large ones. For wide spread lifting its better to just retape with new 2 sided tape the whole flare.

Re: Fender flares falling off

great advice thx....I'm kinda anal so I assume dirt and debris and salt are in there so I'll be streaming some alcohol in there then blowing dry with my filtered dried compressed air and letting that dry overnight before the adhesive phase. Way overthinking it but not a big deal to do this ONCE.

Even better, a link to a place i can purchase the flare.

THANK YOU!
This is for the dealership to do the front two.

What's funny about this is that my favorite local auto body said they'd take care of them for about $75..... lol. Not sure why the dealership wants to replace the flares simply because of some double-sided tape....

What's not funny is that the dealer wants to charge you to fix something that was poorly designed and defective from the factory.

And after 3 years, they still can't get it right.

Unbelievable how the dealer can turn a simple job of reapplying some two sided tape into that. Not to mention they are destroying the factory finish in the process unnecessarily and you will probably end up with some level of mismatched paint. They did only charge $50 bucks an hour for whatever reason so if I wanted to have that done around here at the dealer $130 hourly rate then it would be $1250 or $2500 for all 4 what a bargain let me go get my credit card lol. Or pay a reputable body or custom shop $100 bucks to retape it in less than an hour. or better yet $20 bucks to amazon and spend a half hour in your driveway doing it yourself.

Run don't walk from any dealer that wants to start slopping paint all over and destroying your factory finish over a few lifting flares.

Re: Fender flares falling off

My dealer did mine correctly the same day.. Took the original ones off and reapplied with new tape... They are perfect and have stayed perfect for almost a year now. Sent it to the dealer body shop. Mine stick out a quarter of an inch from the front bumper. Even the body shop manager said it was pitiful.....
