This is my first vehicle with leather seats. 2014 JGC Overland. What is recommended for leather care? I see everything from "Leave 'me alone", to "Slather on the bear grease". What do you folks do and recommend?
I usually just wipe the seats down with a (clean) towel/rag dampened with warm water, then wipe them dry. For spot stains on the leather I use Lexol leather cleaner. I'll usually do a conditioning (Lexol conditioner) treatment once or twice a year as well.
You def want to use a good leather cleaner and conditioner, Lexol is great.
Depending on what kind of environment your jeep is in and how you use it, you might want to condition the leather more
often than not. Doesn't take long to do and will only keep it looking nicer and avoid cracking.
I use Autoglym products.
The Autoglym leather cleaner/refresher is really good. It doesn't strip the leather of the natural oils and doesn't dry it out. After I clean them I use their leather balm (conditioner), really excellent stuff you can get over the counter vs. professional grade detailing products.
For a quick cleanup you want just use a damp cloth.
I'd say at least twice a year give your leather a good clean and condition. It'll help prevent it from drying out and cracking.
I use Adams on the dash because it has UV stabilizers. It was expensive and I don't like the shine so I hope to find something better before the bottle runs out.
"MOPAR® Total Clean is specifically recommended for
leather upholstery. Your leather upholstery can be best preserved by regular cleaning with a damp soft cloth. Small particles of dirt can act as an abrasive and damage the leather upholstery and should be removed promptly with a damp cloth. Stubborn soils can be removed easily with a soft cloth and MOPAR® Total Clean. Care should be taken to avoid soaking your leather upholstery with any liquid. Please do not use polishes, oils, cleaning fluids, solvents, detergents, or ammonia-based cleaners to clean your leather upholstery. Application of a leather conditioner is not
required to maintain the original condition."
I wonder what Jeep's leather has as a coating? Clear vinyl?
I've been using Acura's cleaner and conditioner, only because the dealer gave me a cleaning kit last Christmas.
