The fog lights go off when brites are switched on. I know on my Harley the dealer can reprogram the computer so the spots stay on, can this be done on the Grand Cherokee Limited?
Don't thing so. It is a DOD requirement I think, that the fogs go off with bright. Of course when you install your self, then you can wire them to stay on.
Highly Doubtful that it's a DOD requirement-unless the Department of Defense is now in the automotive business. More than likely it's the D.O.T. you were referring too?
I had the FCM (forward control module) reprogrammed on my '05 Magnum R/T, for "euro" lighting which kept the fogs on with brites. Is this an option on the WK2?
Why would you want hi-beams on when it's foggy? Why would you want fog lights on when it's not? The two are not intended to be on at the same time. Or do you just get a kick out of blinding oncoming drivers?
How would you blind oncoming drivers with fog lights? Unless of course you leave your high beams on when there is an oncoming driver. Fog lights don't blind other drivers. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever why there should be a rule or law against fog lights being on with high beams! You should only be using high beams with no other vehicles in front of you, oncoming or otherwise. Fog lights (or driving lights, for that matter) add additional foreground light that you often lose with high beams. If you're driving in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night, you want all the light you can get.
ok, first of all, the "fog lights" on the WK2 aren't fog lights at all. They are just auxiliary lights; the beam pattern bears no resemblance to a true fog light.
In the US, FMVSS does indeed restrict what forward-facing lights can be lit.. which is why the 'fogs' on US-compliant vehicles are killed when the high beams are turned on.
That said, given my experience on my long, rural pre-dawn morning commute once a week, I'm pretty sure that most people think the blue headlight icon in their instrument cluster means "your cool headlights are on" ..
So might as well light 'em if you got 'em, I guess..
I know the dealer can reprogram them for the newer rams, so im sure they can on these. My "fogs" tend to light up the ditches quite nicely where the deer like to hang out. I'd like this feature. Our 14 has over 53k miles on it and a good chunk of that is 2 lane back roads at dusk. With 1 deer hit already. I'll take anything i can get.
I also drive a lot on country roads and it would be nice if the fog lights stayed on with the high beams. I am going to stop by my Jeep dealer and see if they have any ability to reprogram them on my 14 Overland. Al
In Florida, the laws dictated that no vehicle was allowed to have more than 4 forward facing lights activated at anytime. That is why the fog lights turn off when the brights come on, otherwise you would have 6 lights on (2 standard, 2 fog, 2 brights).
This is the same reason why you are not allowed to drive with auxillary lights on that you see on Wranglers, Pickup trucks, etc. Yes they are bright as hell and would blind everyone, but the main reason is the number of lights legally allowed activated while on a public roadway.

Because the LEDS are accent lighting. They dont have enough of an output to be considered a "light". Any GC with the LED DRL package is the same way, the LED ring remains lit while the headlight bulb and fog lamps are on.
It's funny... even with living in a whitetail deer infested part of the country I rarely ever turn my high beams on after going to HID's on my 14. High beams seem to project the light much higher and further down the road. That seems to diminish the light output in the area ahead of me that I concentrate on while driving. I actually like the light output on low beam better. With the fogs on I have a great light pattern for spotting dear on the road and both shoulders/ditches.
just think how it would be if you had fog lights on with high beams the best of both worlds! lol
If you pull the left stalk back and hold it instead of pushing it forward to turn highbeams on you can see how it looks with fogs and highbeams on at the same time on that dark road. since the fogs do stay on with the high beams while you hold the stalk, may be able to rig a jumper wire for a hardware fix instead of a software. maybe a mini project in the garage on Saturday when its 6 degrees outside.
