Front Licence Plate Frame?

Id like to install a frame and clear cover on my front plate but don't really see anything that will fit with the factory plate bracket/holder that's screwed into the bumper. What sort of things have you guys done or what frames have you found that work? I'm not opposed to charging brackets if needed but didn't really see anything.

Thanks

Clear Cover brand fits on the existing frame.

The weather tech clear cover frame? I was going to get that but not for the price if it doesn't fit nicely. Seems the tabs that hold the plate in place on the stock bracket will interfere. I about trimming those off but then there's no going back

Yes, that one. I have it on the back and tried it on the front and thought it fit fine with no modification.

Pretty much any standard sized frame will work once you trim those tabs off.

A Dremel makes quick work, but a good knife can also do it.

There IS going back, you could always get a new screwed in frame should you decide to.

Re: Front Licence Plate Frame?

This is what I run front and rear on mine... fits perfectly, no trimming of anything necessary.

You can pick these up almost anyplace that has an auto parts section... $5-6 tops.

Check your local laws.
Some places forbid any type of cover over the license plate, even clear ones.

Usually not an issue, but I used to work in the Highland Park area of St. Paul, MN and the cops were dicks. Any reason to issue a ticket, even though it's a simple equipment violation that I called and said it was removed and the ticket was dismissed. Waste of frickin' time for the cop and me. Like they don't have better things to do (gee, like pull over drunk drivers).

Sorry, rant mode off.....

Re: Front Licence Plate Frame?

I wish the state's that still require front plates would get with the program. I hate having front plates. Not that NY will ever change as the red light cameras bring in too much revenue in the cities.

Those laws were all put in place for the plastic that had the ability to have the plate unreadable unless you were right behind or in front of them. Basically photo radar protection or evasion depending on which side of the police car you sat. I've found most police need to be pretty board to enforce those things but there are a lot of bored police in smaller areas.

I fully understand the rant.

For the states that still require front plates, it's usually at the urging of law enforcement to keep them.

When you get a call to be on the lookout for a vehicle (say, an amber alert) it's a lot easier to check the plates of oncoming traffic than it is to check the rear after they go by.

That's a big reason why WI still runs 2 plates.

My state requires a front plate. Here is what I think of that law :-D

And never once hassled in 19 years of driving without one!

Nice. We have traffic cameras all over the highways and even the more used state routes. We also get Amber alerts broadcast to every cell phone. It can be annoying when it's almost 400 miles away, but better to have more eyes on things. I figure most baddies would change plates but I guess a lot is parental or family stuff done spur of the moment without thinking. With loads of smashed bugs in the Summer and salty ice in Winters the front plate is barely readable.
