Glove Box light...

Who the heck designed this? The light is partially obscured in the corner and changing it out to LED was a PITA trying to get out the original wedge bulb. Of course once I got the bulb out my pliers loose grip and bulb drops behind the covers

You know the side comes off too right? Open the passenger door and pop off the side cover. Allows you to use two hands, one from inside the glove box and one from outside. Its still difficult however.

Even after your warning, I still dropped the halogen light down the inside of the well:slapfight: I second your observations, what a bitch of a light to change. Just to get the halogen out, even with that side panel partially pulled off was a nightmare, let alone getting the LED in! I ended up pulling the bottom of the glove box partially off and using some tape on wire to fish the lost halogen out.

CONSPIRACY THEORY - Hmmmm, I wonder if the GC is designed in such a way to put us "weekend" tinkerers off..... that light globe was so difficult to change the average person would get the dealer to do it..... for a cost of course! The same with the battery. Getting the +ve cable off was a bitch, but getting it back on..... well that is another story. As for getting the battery out...... That is my 10 cents worth!!

Thanks for your advice, helped me out heaps. Now to tackle the lights inside the tailgate...

I changed out my interior 194 bulbs and found a very effective method to get them out of the socket. Use a piece of rubber or plastic hose that is a little smaller than the bulb - like 3/8" - slide the hose over the bulb and pull. Worked very well. I tried the needle nose pliers method and I was afraid of shattering the bulb and then you have pieces of glass all over your interior and possibly in your eyes.

I changed out ALL my interior light to LED. This one was a real bitch to change! :slapfight:

Agreed with everyone else. The glove box is a pain in the butt. I wore latex gloves that helped with gripping the bulb.

Took me about 20 mins to change that one bulb when it took me the same amount of time to change all the other interior lights!

I used a plastic zip tie, wrapped it around the bulb and taped it with a masking tape (paper type). The zip tie has to be perpendicular to the flat part of the bulb (T10 bulb).
Second the bulb flat part fits horizontally, so after you align the bulb push it from the front with a flat screwdriver. Using a dental tool or a long pin remove the tape and slide out the zip tie.

I just replaced my glove box bulb. The switch assembly will come out the front of the glove box. You need to go in from the side with a screwdriver and depress the tab on the side of the switch. When you pull the switch out the bulb socket is part of it. Once you have it out the bulb is easy! Then pop it back in. Look in from the side and you will see the tab. Good Luck

Re: Glove Box light with pictures

Had a couple of members ask for pictures. Hope this clarifies it a bit.

You have to remove the side panel next to the glove box and look inside. There are two tabs that you would normally squeeze with your fingers to release (red arrows). You can reach in from the side with a long screwdriver and depress one side and push out. Then from the front work it all the way out. The switch and bulb are all one assembly, replace bulb and pop back in. My Jeep is a 2014 Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks for the great post! When I changed out my interior lights a couple of months ago I saved this one for last and I just couldn't do it. Checking the forum at that time it seems it was a royal PITA for everyone, so I gave up. Saw your post and decided to try it again after installing some LED scuff plates. Easy peasy once I figured out how to get the far side latch depressed (with my finger stuck in through the glove compartment access).
