If you are going the official insurance route, Dad is correct. The at-fault insurance co. pays and your insurance record should not be tagged with a claim. I just hope the driver's brother doesn't have some diplomatic status that mucks up the works but you should be ok.

That's the direct route to having a claim (albeit not at-fault but still a claim) on the record with your insurance co. That goes into the "mix" at the next renewal or rate review. Each insurance co has diffferent, and constantly changing policies on how that does/does not affect your rates but it never "helps" you. My State Farm agent has always told me to keep SF out of it if I was not at fault and the other party is cooperating, and has insurance. You'll still the rental car, proper repairs (hopefully), etc....be careful tho, some policies don't guarantee use of true OEM panels and parts which you have a right to. In those situations you may need to go thru your insurance co (they pay bill) and then have them subrogate the claim thru at-fault insurance co...that's when you get tagged with a claim as you have now just "exposed" them to risk.....ahh, the joys of insurance.

And if the other driver is uninsured, contacting his own insurance company is really the only recourse. Unless he wants to gamble that the girl's brother will make good on the damages out of his own pocket. LOL... I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that if I was him.

If he's not at fault then filing a claim shouldn't count against him. His insurance company will go after the other guy's insurance company anyway... that is, if he even has insurance. That has been my experience in the past with SF in my area.

Right, no insurance no one to contact but your own. I assume NY is a "financial responsibility" state meaning must have insurance which means cop was supposed to ensure that she gave him the insurance info or gave her (or car owner) set time to show at station with Prof of insurance.

If this is getting turned into insurance then I don't understand why OP is looking for parts.

#6 is just the actual structural bumper which I bet is bent slightly on yours on the right end.
