Re: Got my lower skirts paint matched 2014 white Summit

I've never been a fan of white vehicles but WK2's look sharp. Summits look particularly sharp in white. Slick ride bro, making me double guess my granite crystal lol.

Re: Got my lower skirts paint matched 2014 white Summit

I think the painted parts look great. Gives the Summit a different look. Wish I had the nerve to do the same, but I'm used to my Summit the way it is.

My fender flares are also black textured plastic.

I personally prefer the textured plastic to planted surfaces on those parts simply because they hide damage from Jerks that whack their doors into me.

I agree with you, I tried before having fender flares painted and they get damaged pretty quickly..so in my case I leave them with the textured plastic.
Good looking the white Summit, nice work and thanks for sharing the pics.

Re: Got my lower skirts paint matched 2014 white Summit

Well the flares are plastic so it's not like there is anything more on a Summit that could dent over a Limited or Laredo. As far as dings I do not park my Jeep in a spot where it could be susceptible to a door ding. My parking methods have not failed me yet. 20 years driving and have not received a single ding from another parked vehicle :-) I'm anal about those kinda things though and probably put more thought into it than your average driver lol.

Re: Got my lower skirts paint matched 2014 white Summit

How are the repainted panels holding up? The parts that you had painted are lowest to the ground and I wondered about the pitting , sandblasting ,and stone chipping of those parts. Are the lower fascia and rocker panels painted with some type of hardener in the paint?
I certainly like the look over the grey plastic look. That said, the unpainted plastic does hold up well. After almost 18 yrs. my 98 4 Runner's lower fascia still looks good.

Well either way they were painted prior to me having them re-done in white. The Summit panels aren't textured plastic to begin with, they are painted "granite" color which is same as the exterior color granite on the Grand Cherokee.
The repainted skirts have only been on a few weeks and they look new still. Prior to that the granite painted skirts also looked new and I have 3300 miles on my summit now.
As far as if they use a different paint on the lower skirts from the factory, I don't know but I would doubt it.

So far so good and I have no regrets painting those panels. IMO the exterior looks improved significantly. Looked great before, but you get my drift ;-)

Re: Got my lower skirts paint matched 2014 white Summit

FWIW, I had a clear bra installed on the front end and Xpel film has a pattern for the Summit side skirts and the film wraps all the way around underneath to protect from salts/sands/rocks etc...
Until this thread, I had no idea the skirts were all granite cause my Summit is granite. I'd be pretty pissed to have a red Summit with granite skirts. I don't understand why Jeep would make that design decision?!?

Exactly, it's so dumb. If anything I would think they would all be black, not the granite color. I have a black summit, and just noticed this... It's subtle but still, now I want to paint them. jts97z28, your jeep is awesome. I totally agree that the look of the color matching side skirts in the Platinum addition is better, but don't like sacrificing the other chrome details.. I originally wanted your color combo, but my wife has a white SUV, and I have always had black on black vehicles...I just couldn't pull the trigger on something different... Also, I was wondering if there was a way to upgrade my door sills to the illuminated "SUMMiT" ones.... So sure enough I found your thread, & you already did it... Looks awesome, one step ahead!

yup and I'm still diggin those sills and have no regrets doing that mod. Love seeing those things every time I open the door. If you decide you want to do it sometime and need help feel free to message me. Either way it's a fairly easy job to do and costs less than 200 bucks.
