Would googone have made it easier to get the residue off? That's what I used to remove the dealer tattoo on my GC.

Re: Grand Cherokee letters vs chrome side moulding

The moldings don't bother me, and they are a whole lot easier to keep clean vs. 13 letters on each side. I hate cleaning/waxing, etc. around letters.

So I received the letters. Boy oh boy I'm not sure how I'm gonna install them.

Good luck with that, I'm sure it will look amazing. You know, if you do them at roughly a 45 degree angle, instead of parallel to the ground, no one will ever know if it isn't straight.

But really, as others have said, use painters tape as a guide for the bottom of the letters. Once you get that line perfect, your good to go! That's how I would do it.

edit: Please post a pick when you get them on there.

Re: Grand Cherokee letters vs chrome side moulding

Phase 1, aka removing mouldings, is complete!

I used fishing line. Was quite easy. They are very fragile though. The front door mouldings snapped in 3. Oh well, have no plans to re-install those ugly things.

Once off I used my fingers to remove the left over 3M tape. I then used GooGone to remove the left over adhesive.

Once that was done I washed my Jeep completely. I then clay bar'ed the area where the mouldings were. I noticed my Jeep was in need of a good claying so that ate up the rest of the daylight I had.

I'll install the letters tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Can you take a picture of it for us before you put the letters on?

Justforjeeps.com is the place. They are a vendor here.

Re: Grand Cherokee letters vs chrome side moulding

Bought the letters from JustForJeeps.com. Great buying experience.

I haven't gotten around to installing the letters yet as it's been raining. Hoping to tackle that tomorrow.

I must admit I love how my GC looks without those 1990's style door mouldings. I am blown away by how different it looks without the mouldings. Gives the sides of my GC a more modern look.
