Re: Hard driver's seat

Here is a link to the different seat foams used by model (at top): http://www.wk2jeeps.com/pdf/2015_wk2..._Canada.pdfMay

I took a new Overland for a test drive. I was shocked at how uncomfortable the seats were. Seats in my 2004 Overland are like a sofa! I can drive 10 hrs on a trip with no saddle sores.

I'm also surprised that between this thread, and another lengthy thread on same topic, nobody has identified what the real problem is, which to me was very obvious:

The front of the seat will not raise high enough to support the hamstring and front of upper leg. I'm 5' 11" 170. Pretty standard. I had to slide the seat rearward, practically putting me in the back seat, before my legs would be supported by the seat. The center door pillar was right beside my head.

After 10 years in my '04, I'm a flag waving Overland fan. I was ready to buy. But I walked. Flummoxed now; don't know what to buy. No other SUV of this size will tow >5000 lbs (my boat).

I'm sure the firmness will be an issue for a guy weighing only a buck seventy, but the real issue is the poor ergonomics.

Rented a Dodge Journey (not my choice) SUV on vacation last week. Same issue. So I think it's a brand-wide issue, and what a screw up indeed.

Great link for folks, thx. This adds the Altitude and optional seat foams:

For MY14 (MY15 almost assuredly exact same) your seat foam is:

Laredo/E, Cloth....#2 Foam
Altitude, Suede....#5 Foam
Limited (Std)....#6 Foam
Limited (Lux II)....#1 Foam
Overland....#5 Foam
Summit....#3 Foam
SRT (Suede Perf)....#4 Foam
SRT (Laguna)....#7 Foam

As a reminder, a higher number is denser/stiffer foam.

Re: Hard driver's seat

I too am having a hard time with these seats. I just purchased a 2015 Overland with the hemi ,off road adventure2 package and rear dvd package. I wasn't able to tell what the seats were like on a 5min test drive, but I thought the truck was nice and decided to purchase it. On the ride home my fiancÚ and I both started to comment on how stiff and uncomfortable the seats are. We decided maybe we needed to try to get used to them. I spent a number of hours playing with the seat in my driveway trying every postion with the lumbar ect. to no avail. Well, 3 days later I could no longer bare to drive it because It caused me so much back and leg pain. Just the thought of having to sit in it for more then 15mins made me uncomfortable. I have an hour commute to work And can not bare to make the drive in this vehicle. So, I went to the dealer on the third day and explained my situation about the seats and tried to make arrangements to return it (only had 500mi on it and was bought with 160mi on it) based on buyers remorse. The dealer was not receptive to us at all and only offered to whole sale the car which would leave me 8k in the hole. Now, I'm stuck with a 50k dollar truck that I cant drive. It has been sitting in my garage now since the beginning of December.
Btw this is my 5th Grand Cherokee and have never had problems with the seats before. I'm probably going to have to put the truck up for sale or trade it in for a huge loss. I've never gone through so much stress over a new car before, and the way Chrysler and jeep have delt with it has been awful.

Re: Hard driver's seat

See my post above. Moving the seat almost all the way up and further back so there is more contact with my thighs solved the uncomfortable seat issue for me. Hope you can figure out a seat position that works for you.

Thanks for your reply. I do feel like I've tried everything at this point. I even went out and bought that stupid comfy pillow that's advertised on tv to sit on. But I will give it a shot and see if it works.

Re: Hard driver's seat

I unfortunately had to sell my Jeep. I didn't look forward to driving it any more because the seat was so uncomfortable. Any more than 30 minutes behind the wheel and I would start getting some pretty decent pain in my back and sciatica, and would limp after getting out. More than that and it was just unbearable!

Lost a lot of money with that experience.

This is exactly the same problem I'm having. I'm fearing selling it is what going to have to happen. I tried to readjust the seat again today but still just as bad.

If anyone in the nj ny or pa area is interested in a one month old 2015 overland with 600miles on it let me know. Pm me
It has 5.7, off road adventure group2, and rear dvd.
Graphite metallic, black interior.

Hey Tony, What did you ended up replacing it with ?

The second they register it, it devalues. When you drive it off the lot, again it devalues.
If you were trying to buy from them and a car like yours was an option, you would use the fact that it is a used vehicle as a bargaining tool to your advantage.
As much as it sucks for you, I completely understand their position.

It's a hard thing to evaluate before signing the contract, exactly how comfortable the seats are. You generally don't get that much time to really try it. It was something we were both conscious of when testing ours. What we didn't think of was the change in foam going to the Lux II package. I'm not a fan if the seats because I think they're too flat, but the wife likes them and it's her daily drive, so that is most important. I don't hate them, I don't find them uncomfortable, but I wouldn't call them comfortable either.

Re: Hard driver's seat

The foam ratings are interesting, the wife complains the seats are too firm in the back and are painful. I have the limited, maybe I should have optioned the LUX package!

I ended up putting sheepskin seat covers on and that seems to have done the job. i don't like them, but the missus isn't complaining anymore.

When we spoke to the dealer about it, they gave us details of an upholsterer who could change the foam/shape. That might be a better option than selling.

Re: Hard driver's seat

Further to my post (8 posts up this thread):

1. I couldn't she'll out $60K for a new Overland, given the seat issue.

2. Instead, I shelled $40K for a low mileage super clean 2012 after a week long hunt for such.

3. Maybe sooner (as some have posted above) but at minimum, when I go on vacation this summer 600 miles in a day, I'll know for sure.

4. At the dealer where I bought it, there was a suit from corporate on site to help with a week long promo. I relayed my feedback. This was no surprise to him. I said it's impacting sales & sat, so if he had a conduit, to relay it upstairs.

5. If they get their heads out of the sand and fix this for 2016, I'm in. If not, given Ford fixed the ugliness of the Explorer for 2016, and those Platinum Edition seats look almost edible, might jump ship.

I will post back to this forum some time in the future.

PS (Man, these are the best! There's nothing like them).
PPS (Day 1; dealer delivered to me. Day 2 will be to delete those resonators and hear that HEMI)!

Re: Hard driver's seat

I had rented a limited 2014 without the lux package and found the seats much more comfortable. I wonder if the ventilated seat system has something to do with it.
