Headlight replacement on 2015 GC Altitude

I recently puchased a '15 GC Altitude which doesn't have the LED / HID headlights. My last 3 cars all had the HID / Xenon headlights so I was used to those. I was driving the other night and noticed I'm having a lot harder time seeing the road after dark. I had to check a couple times to make sure my headlights were on...which they were.

Can anyone offer suggestions for brighter replacement bulbs? I'm not looking to spend a lot of money since I'm leasing the Jeep, but I would really like to get something that is brighter. I would be willing to spend up to $200 for a pair.

Thanks!

Im running Sylvania Silverstar Ultras. They made a very noticeable difference at night and only cost me $30 a pair off ebay 👍

Thanks for the reply. Were they pretty easy to change out?

I just replaced mine a week ago with Phillips Crystal Vision Ultra $32 a pair off Amazon. For some reason Amazon says that don't fit the 2014 JGC, but they do as they are H11's.

I was very happy with the results in terms of both color and brightness. You should be aware that these types of bulbs tend to have a shorter lifespan than the stock halogens.

Attached is a picture of mine after replacement. The glare in the photo is pretty bad but you can somewhat get an idea of the color and increased brightness.

Depends on who you ask about installation. I thought it was a pain in the butt, while others have said it is easy for even a novice. There are videos on YouTube showing you how to replace them step by step

Headlight replacement on 2015 GC Altitude

I used this video as a guide. It only took me maybe 5 minutes per side for the headlights and about 5 minutes total for both fogs. One thing i did NOT follow was the part about unplugging the PCM harnesses. I just unclipped the entire PCM mounting plate from the fuse box and moved it to the side instead. These GC's are very temperamental especially the electronics, so i wasn't even going there.

I have a little over 5 years car audio installation experience. So to me working on cars/trucks is second nature to me, hence the quick install time. Just take your time and you'll do fine.

Aftermarket hids or led headlight kits are attainable for under $200.00

Can't say how the led headlight kits are in terms of brightness though, but it would save you from having to cut a hole in the headlight dust caps which have to be done when you install hids.

Re: Headlight replacement on 2015 GC Altitude

The 2015 Grand Cherokee with halogens uses an H11 bulb in the low beam. If you want the most light, I'd suggest an HID kit. They are up to 3 times brighter than a standard halogen bulb. Our H11 XenonDepot Xtreme HID kit would be a great choice. You would need a canbus adapter as well to prevent any flickering or error codes with the HID's on the Grand Cherokee. The 4300K color temperature would be equivalent to the factory HID's in terms of color and gives the most light output.

Re: Headlight replacement on 2015 GC Altitude

i recently put an HID kit in from another place which claimed they were Ultra Canbus (wish i went with xenon depot) but i got the canbus adapters from XD, after 20 mins or so the lights just go out and i can;t get them back on, the place i got the kit from claims the 2015 canbus system is different than the 2014 and this is the reason? does that sound right to anyone

Re: Headlight replacement on 2015 GC Altitude

If they are "Ultra Canbus" ballasts then why would it make a difference? This is exactly why we don't buy into the "CanBUS ballasts" hype -- what works on one vehicle, doesn't always work on another.

The led headlight kits that emit light output similar to HID's based on their description cannot be used on a system with a dust cap. This is due to the need of these systems to shed heat (they use fans or cooling fins) and are quite a bit taller than a standard bulb. Until this changes I'm afraid HID's are our only option in the non HID JGC's.

Re: Headlight replacement on 2015 GC Altitude

not necessarily the case:

9005 LED headlight | Can Am Spyder RT LED

Are the Grand Cherokee's much different?
