headlights

So my passenger side headlight bulb went out for the first time on my 2014 Grand Cherokee. There is no warning on my cluster. When my blinker light went out last year there was a warning in the cluster. Is it normal not to have a warning for a headlight bulb going out? Getting oil change in a couple of weeks hopefully they can just replace it under warranty.

Take a look at the owner's manual, if there is an indication, it should be mentioned there. You can call the service department and ask them as well.

If you haven't gone over the 3 year/ 36,000 mile warranty, it should be covered. You may want to consider replacing both headlight bulbs at the same time, since the headlight bulb performance degrades slowly over time. You'll pay for the elected replacement, but at least you'll have 2 fresh bulbs.

Good Luck

I had a notice for one of my taillights going out on my '14, but not sure about the headlight.

That said, I swapped both my headlight bulbs with Osram's since the stock ones, to me, had no light at all. I swore I'd never replace a headlight bulb again in the Jeep after that and the dealer would be doing it. Going through the wheel well was a PITA.

Headlight bulbs are covered under warranty? I was under the impression these are all consumable items is it not?

Re: headlights

If you plan on buying new bulbs I would STRONGLY suggest upgrading to something like a Sylvania Silver Star or Ultra. The light output difference is huge compared to factory.

Just my .02!

This. I put Osram Night Breakers in mine. World of difference compared to the stock bulbs in terms of brightness and the distance I could see.

Re: headlights

lol.

Unless you paid for some sort of service package, headlights are a wear and tear item.

I called the dealership, bulbs are covered up to 12 months/12,000 miles, so I'm out of the warranty. Parts and labor would be around $90.00 to replace one headlight bulb.

Wow. This is good info. I wouldn't have thought bulbs are covered at all. I wonder if this applies to Canadian customers. Knowing how much we get screwed in warranty...

I have 4 months left on my lease, so I think I'll just go with whatever the dealer puts in.

Re: headlights

As to your original question: no, there is no indication for headlights going out. My low beam went out on one side and I didn't realize until I saw the reflection missing.
