Where do you buy the recommended Vinyl for wrapping the chrome window trim?
What options do I have for blacking out tail lights?
Lastly what about blacking out lug nuts? Should I buy new black ones or can I get away with painting?
Like to do this to my 2015 altitude. I already painted and added siderails from a 2011 wk2 and mopar luggage rack. As well as painted white side steps for my wife and kids.
Thanks For the info. What shade tint do most people go with for tail lights Smoked (med-dark) or Charcoal (dark). I couldn't find photos of our jeeps with examples.
Anyone know where to buy the gloss black vinyl wrap for window trim?
I blacked out the window trim on my 15 Altitude using the 3M 1080 gloss black vinyl purchased from Amazon. Best advice I can offer is do the front windows in three sections matching the vinyl up with the chrome pieces. Also use a fresh, sharp razor and I really liked the felt wrapped squeegee I bought as well. I tried to do the front window in one piece and it was a bitch to get around the mirror. I also did the rear window in two pieces. Get more than you think you'll need. This was the first time I had wrapped anything myself and made some mistakes that I had to re-do, like the front windows.
I bought the 3m wrap and started doing the straight chrome pieces. I got so damn frustrated with the curved parts. I looked at the sections I did and loved the look of it but the longer I stared, I saw mistakes. I tore it all off....
I feel your pain, as I'm in the process of doing the trim on mine. I pulled the back section piece off after I trimmed it too much and left a chrome sliver.
I feel like I've watched hundreds of videos on YouTube of people doing this, and one (and I can't remember which) guy used a full sheet (like a 2' x 2' square) to do the rear section, and trimmed it after he smoothed it out. May be an idea to try.
The other alternative is spray painting after taping everything off. I'm not sure if that would work, what paint to use, or how long it will last. I definitely wouldn't want to take the time to prep but then have the paint scrape off shortly after.
