Re: Help with 2011-13 factory bi xenon to 14 bi xenon

Yep, been scouring the web for any and all info I can find! I'm close I think.

No problem, I know how that unexpected travel deal goes. For the last 10 years I would travel up to 80% for work until I changed jobs in Jan. Nice to be home with my family...though a trip would be nice now that I've had a 6 month break.

Anyway, just replied to your PM. I appreciate both your and jeep_addicted's feedback and assistance!

Leveling motors arrived yesterday. Time to see if I can find the connector.

Cannibalizing these isn't going to be easy if that is the route I have to take but I'm going to give that a try today too.

Re: Help with 2011-13 factory bi xenon to 14 bi xenon

So I'm at the point where I need to buy lamps...this may seem like a dumb question but I can't seem to find any good info. What are the AFS lamps vs non AFS? I have a 2011 Summit and want to keep all the features I had, so will I need the 2014 AFS lamps or was that a feature introduced for 2014?

That AFS feature was introduce for the 2014 Model year so for your headlight swap it would be better to look for non AFS headlights, but I have seen someone add 14 SRT headlights to a 2014 that does not have AFS and they did not report having any issues so I guess what ever you can get will work.

I personally would make sure they match as in buying two non AFS or two AFS.

Great to know. What exactly is the AFS feature? I haven't been able to find much detail in a few casual web searches. At first I was concerned that it was the leveling, but figured that made no sense. Is AFS the slight turning of the lamp when turning the vehicle, like my Wife's M45x does?

I don't remember exactly what the letters stand for but the headlights steer around corners.

Someone please correct but I think it stood for Adaptive Front lighting System

The system uses information from the vehicle that determine speed and steering angle and it adjusts the headlights left or right.

The feature was first available on the 2007 MY VW Touareg and at the time it also used some supplemental halogen bulbs to light the road at certain angles as well as swivelling the projectors.

Valeo was the supplier of the VW system and they are the same supplier of the Chrysler system.

2007 MY VW had it so its not ground breaking tech but I am sure it made a difference.

Re: Help with 2011-13 factory bi xenon to 14 bi xenon

Gotcha. That's what I was hoping the feature was - headlamps turning a bit. Like I said, the wife's Infiniti has it. I wouldn't mind it if I had it, but I'm not about to spend extra for it I don't think. Would it even work on the 2011 I wonder??

Figure I'll find one lamp first and give it a try. I see no reason why I would need both at the same time unless there is something I'm not aware of...and I'd rather be out for 1 lamp if for some reason I abound ones the project.

Passenger side seems to make the most sense to start with (seeing as how it appears to be the more involved side) and disconnect the driver side entirely "just in case"? Seem like a prudent course of action?
