HID Fogs - Alternative Installation

I just replaced the halogen fog lights on my 2014 Limited with Phillips HIDs.

I've seen the various write-ups where you have to pull the whole front fascia off or remove the fender well covers in order to access the the light box(es), but I opted for a different approach.

By removing the front air dam, you have access to the working area, and it's as easy as turning 7 quarter turn fasteners and pulling. (Well, you do have to remove 6 screws if you have a front license plate bracket.)

I installed the kit without the relay harness, making it a direct plug in. The hardest part was finding a good location to mount the ballasts.

Rather than try to match the color of the HID driving lights, I installed the 3000K bulbs, since they actually work better in the fog (which we have here in abundance).

YMMV

Here's the link: H11 Xtreme Digital HID Conversion Kits

The kit comes in color temps from 3000K to 8000K.

So you didn't install the canbus fix or relay harness? I thought both were needed with this install to function properly

Re: HID Fogs - Alternative Installation

I installed the canbus fix harness, but the stock wiring appears to supply enough juice to power the HIDs.

I was ready to do the full monty: bought new rivets/rivet gun/wire loom, etc., then noticed another thread on here stating that they could be plugged in directly. That's what gave me the idea to try just pulling the air dam.

Re: HID Fogs - Alternative Installation

Do you have any pics of the beam on a wall or garage door by chance?

Re: HID Fogs - Alternative Installation

Here are a couple of quick pics before leaving for work this morning.

The HIDs are way brighter than the stock halogens...
