Yeah I don't know. I wouldn't do it. IMO it would for sure be a downgrade! I just don't understand why you would want to mess with a high quality bi-xenon setup. If color is what you're looking for why not try the Osram CBI bulbs? Those are supposed to be among the best bulbs that will get you the whiter color, but does not reduce the lumens. I would go that route before I ever slapped some LED bulb into a bi-xenon projector.
Oh and I highly doubt you would be able to fit one of those LEDs with those monster sized heat sinks into the Grand Cherokee. After the bulb gets installed there is a dust cover that gets re-installed and things are pretty tight in there, plus I wouldn't want a blazing hot heat sink sitting sealed inside my expensive headlight.

Re: HID High Beams - Secondary Bulb or just a lid.

Thanks JTS97Z28.

You are right, this is just for the color. I like my HIDs to have an Ice White color just like the DRLs. However I very much like how certain lamps/projectors -and I see this on cars with LED low-beams such as the BMW i3- create this electric blue (almost purple) halo around the edges of the projected beam. I get this effect but very very mild with my current stock HIDs. If I could get this efect with just another xenon bulb it would be great.
I was thinking on installing a 6000K xenon bulb should the LED turned out not to be an option -as it seems-.

Check out the halo I talk about. This pic is from the LED low-beam on a BMW i3:

Re: HID High Beams - Secondary Bulb or just a lid.

That's a nice beam and cutoff. Even though its not really an option for you here, whats neat about HID retrofits is the output and cutoff line are very customizeable. The best results I got was when I did an HID projector retrofit on an old Jeep of mine. I used a high quality bi-xenon projector with clear lenses, and had the lens and shield spaced for an amazing colorful cutoff. This was all achieved with just a typical 4300K bulb. I'm sure this could be done with the Jeeps projectors, but the problem is who would want to disassemble the entire headlight housing to do it? Not me that's for sure. I notice my 2015 Grand Cherokee actually does have a fair amount of blue on the cutoff. I honestly think you would be VERY happy going with the Osram CBI bulbs....don't just go with some random cheap 6000K bulb. Stick with a quality bulb!

Here is the retrofit I did a couple years back on my old 04 Overland.

Yes that is a 4300K bulb. Remember though that is not my 2015 Grand Cherokee. Like I said that was an older vehicle of mine where I did a completely custom retrofit. I just wanted to use it as an example of just how good some HID setups can be. That blue cutoff is what the retrofitters like to achieve to get that "flicker" effect. In other words, when an uncomming drivers eyes get into and out of that blue/purple cutoff it looks pretty damn amazing lol...but even with all that light show, the output is still VERY good.
From my own lighting experience all I can recommend to you is try a quality whiter bulb and stick with the D3S HID bulb. I would recommend the Osram CBI or Philips Ultinon. Be sure to buy from a reputable retailer as believe it or not there are a lot of knock off HID bulbs out there.

Do you happen to know what's the stock Xenon bulb's:

  • Lumens
  • Watts

I want to make sure I'm not replacing this bulb with something less/more brighter. Not more brighter so is not to burn/melt anything.

That blue edge you see is called chromatic aberration. It is caused when an optical lens bends different wavelengths of light at different angles, creating somewhat of a prism effect. In the optics/photography world, excessive amounts of chromatic aberration indicates low quality optics.

In short, the lens causes this, not the lamp.

True! But it also depends on the composition (elements) present in the gas that this prism is "breaking" the color spectrum into.
