I would def give the hid kits a try. I just installed in my 2012 Laredo and they look great. I think the way the housings are for the halogens keep the light from reflecting everywhere.
This was obviously 3-5 ft.

And this angle at the top of a civic so you can see that it's pretty well contained. I got mine from xenondepot.com the H11 4300k xtreme Philips Xenon kit Canbus fix with the relay. Installation kinda sucked as far as reaching the actual lights but connection was a breeze. One guy flashed me but I was on an incline waiting to turn left and across the street would've blinded him but I received the same reactions with my 08 Infiniti g37 so I just chalk it up as jealousy.
