You're probably better off with HIR bulbs than an HID kit truthfully. HIRs more closely mimic the design of a halogen bulb, and so the reflectors will more effectively utilize the light. In a re-based HID bulb, you're going to have light scattering all over the place, because th HID capsule has a very different design that the halogen bulb will.

And keep in mind, not all projectors are equal. The projectors you're see in an ebay housing will PALE in comparison to a set of OEM quality projector taken out of a vehicle that had them stock. The Retrofit Source has a few good projectors built to the same standards as well, but you can buy them brand new. The only downside (to me) is that they tend to cater to their community a lot, and their community likes these really colorful cutoffs and things like that which look cool, but do not look OEM.

Oh well, can't blame them for supporting their community though.

Re: HID's finally being installed.

There is a difference between a halogen projector and a true HID projector.. Just putting a HID in a halogen projector will still give you more controlled light output but the projector bowl is not meant for HID light output. I've seen the reflective film on a halogen bowl start to peel off because of the UV light.. Just be careful with that happening..

This actually happened on my WK fog lights when I had HID's installed. The reflective film inside the housing started to peel away and fade. In the end I wound up replacing both housings and running LED fogs.
