How to De- chrome overland

Hey everyone.... I have a 2011 gun metal overland. I want to take all the chrome off and black it out instead. I've been reading the threads to get a better idea on how to do it. Here's my plan so far. But if there's better ways or suggestions from anyone I'd appreciate it. I will not be doing any of the work as I have 0 experience and don't want to screw up a beautiful jeep.

1. Replace chrome grill with altitude grill
2. Replace chrome brow with altitude brow
3. Remove the chrome door strips
4. Side mirrors- do they sell black covers? Or do I paint them my body color?
5. Chrome trim around windows- I have no idea what to do with that. Ideas?
6. Chrome strip on the back bumber- not sure what to do with that. Ideas?
7. Chrome door handles- not sure what to do... Ideas?

I think that's all the chrome. So once that is finished then ill get black rims.

Srt8 rims or altitude rims? Will they cost about the same?

Thanks for any feedback. Since I won't be doing the work I'd like to have a plan on this project so the body shop can do it all at once....

Thank you in advance

plasti-dip sucks. Its flat....has a terrible tecture and is not glossy enough for the moldings. Even adding the glossifier doesn't give it enough gloss. Look into the 3m 180 scotchprint vinyl. Many colors and gloss.

I've never seen plasti-dip, but I can only imagine I would agree very much with Scott.

Re: How to De- chrome overland

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah im going to stay away from dipping. I'll talk to the body shop guy. I'm going to have him paint the door handles and the mirrors my body color. Im considering having him paint the brow also my body color, instead of buying the Altitude brow. Not sure what would look better. I'll ask him what he would do for the chrome moldings, but I'll definitely recommend 3m 180 scotchprint vinyl. I'll post some before and after pics once i get everything finished.

Thanks for the help.

Carlo

Re: How to De- chrome overland

I'm in the process of doing all this to my Overland too.
So far I have painted the rear brow body coloured and the chrome side mouldings too, then blacked out the lettering before clearing the lot, although I'm still undecided if I'll put the mouldings back on.

My front grill is currently plasti-dipped but this will be taken off and painted body colour too.
Then I will attack the door handles.

The chrome mouldings around the windows will be vinyl wrapped using this
Shadowline Matte & Gloss Black Window Trim & Roof Vinyls
Just waiting for it to arrive.

Wheels have also been painted Brilliant Black too.

Re: How to De- chrome overland

So would there be a difference in quality if I was just to have the body shop use 3m scotch print vinyl that Scott recommended instead of buying the altitude grill?

I'm assuming the 3m vinyl is better than paint? This might be a little more cheaper in cost then I thought if I can avoid buying a new grill and brow without sacrificing quality.

Matty 470- did you keep the stock wheels on and just have them painted? Will the rims keep their quality look if painted? Is painted better than powder coating? If so maybe I can save more money painting my rims instead of having to buy new rims and tires!

Thanks

I painted my own 20" rims, so it didn't cost me much at all.
Powdercoating would have cost a lot more because I would firstly have to pay for the removal and refit of the tyres and then the actual powdercoating of the rims too, not to mention being without the car for a few days with it on stands waiting for the rims to return.
I painted them and refit them in half a day.
