Re: I also did SRT fog lights.. wow. Pics inside

Thanks!

It's tough for me to tell honestly vs stock bulbs. I have the osram 5000 and the thing is they look a little blue compared to them. I have driven on a dark road with no street lights or houses and used both separately. The fogs are white looking head on, but appear to have a blue tint to them. When my 5k bulbs first turn on after about 3 seconds of color changing they match then my bulbs are a tad bit whiter. Combined though I can say they blend to the extent of not seeing one over the other with them both on.

The impressive thing is the amount of usable light they give off.

For me illuminated road surface trumps the amount of time I drive through fog or hazardous conditions. Being able to see better 9 trips out of 10 sealed the deal for me.

I went a head and ordered the OSRAM CBI HIDs which are 5000k and should match up with the LEDs a little better. petey2133 has the CBIs also and said they are pretty close to the OEM LEDs. I have been pretty critical of a lot of these LED kits I have tried in the fogs but I have to say I really do like these OEM LED SRT ones definitely plenty of usable light and an easy install. Hope to have the CBIs put in the next few days.

First 2 or 3 nights of driving doesn't seem to tell a difference over stock bulb. But like always they turn a fantastic color and the brighter white yields a contrast of dark to light unlike the stock bulbs that allows for me to see better at night.

The big thing I noticed after a couple days is all the reflecting surfaces like stop signs and speed limit signs have a glow on them that my stock bulbs didn't do. Almost like a look of light going through a prism. Very nice indeed.

I drove around for about 3 or 4 days on every trip while having my low beams on. When I get time I will go out and set my camera up and turn them on and you can see them heat cycle and meet full color.

Won't be till late at night when the baby goes to bed though

Decided to take some video footage now that the bulbs are starting to come to the correct color.

Before you see the video know this.

the DRL flicker may be because of the frame rate of my video camera, its a 4K camera that films at 30p. But to keep the file small, I compressed it and pushed it to youtube right from final cut pro.

Bulbs are D3S Osram 5000k CBI
Fog Lights are SRT8 LED

First part of video is from passenger door facing hill side. I toggle between fog,HID,fog, off.

Second video is from angle shot from the front. zoomed in for color comparison.

final video is from straight on. Yes its blown out, but that makes it easier to see the color of the two sets of bulbs.

My final thoughts are this. I love them, all of them. I just installed the VLED Triton V3 brake lights and they are fantastic as well.

Those CBIs definitely look better and match up better than the stock 4300K. Great setup thanks for posting.

Thanks and your welcome

Here are some screen grabs of them heating up and full power

As you can see they start out with a lot of color then turn to almost a pure white which translates very nicely to the road. The fogs stay a little more blue but blend in nicely.

Thanks for the pointers on the HID bulb install petey it was a lot easier and quicker than I was expecting. One hand in from the top and one in from the wheel well so got two hands on them at the same time it was a piece of cake. I was reading some other posts and why do some people take the bumpers off for the bulb change, do different GC trim levels have different obstructions that would require that?

The 5000k CBIs are great they match up to the LEDs much better than the 4300ks stock bulbs. I have not had them on very long and I know they need to go through burn in for a while so will see how the color match goes in the coming weeks. will try to get a few pictures when I have time and the color levels out.

Petey I take back my original statement about trying to figure out what I was seeing in your headlight output shot on the wall and possibly having improperly installed bulbs. For another member that has bulb install issues I took a picture of the stock output from my Jeep on the wall, and it turns out its the camera that makes it appear the beam angles down slightly. My output looks just like yours. It has the perfectly horizontal cutoff, but there is a slightly more intense beam that angles off and the camera over exposes that making it look like the cutoff is angled down. So now that I understand what I am looking at it looks like your setup is pretty good.

Can one of you take a close up picture of the SRT LED installed on the HA or Overland?

Didn't you see my thread? I have posted exactly what you asked for. A front closeup picture of the fog light.

Ok fine I'll post it again.

Yep saw that. Was hoping with light off. I should have been more specific.

Ok, here ya go. They look cool when they are off. Looks a little more modern in the front with a brighter clear lens instead of the hazy projector lens.
