Only reason they are probably not DOT approved is because of the color temp. They are an OEM HID bulb. They produce the exact same output pattern/cutoff as Osram or any of their other products.

Out of the box, they are white. How they will look in 500 hours, and how the CBI would look after 500 hours, I do not know. The Ultinons might shift towards the light blue/purple hue I have seen online. The CBI might actually turn white instead of warm white. It'll take me 2+ years of driving to reach that many hours easily. I'd rather have bulbs that look good now, than wait years for them to look good. That's why I chose the Ultinons.

For the first two weeks of putting my CBI bulbs in I ran my low beams on every trip day or night.

This is something you can of course do. But even if you drove your vehicle for an hour each day it would take months to reach the optimal number of hours for brightness and color. Two weeks is not nearly enough time. Like I said, I have 8 months on one pair of my CBI's and they BARELY look any better than BRAND NEW bulbs - if you like the CBI now, you'll love them in after several more months LOL. Check this out... old CBI on the driver side, new CBI on the passenger side. Also include an extremely short exposure shot for brightness comparison.

Again, compare that to the Ultinon which is pretty white out of the box... you may see why I prefer it.
