I bought the WRONG fuse tap. HELP

Ok,

So I got the LED lights and I mounted them behind the grill of my 2014 JGC Overland. They look cool because I wired them to a 12v DC plug I had lying around. When I went to use the horn fuse...it did NOT fit my mini fuse tap. I am no newb..but would appreciate advice.

What fuse tap do I need for the tiny fuses in the box under the hood. I want to use the horn but the mini fuse tap did not fit. I tried fitting the wire on one side of the fuse to push it in. The horn worked...but the lights did NOT. Here's a dumb question. Is there a positive and negative side to the fuse?

Also..do they make a micro fuse tap that will work with the itty bitty fuses in our jeeps?

Thanks guys and gals.

Haze

Re: I bought the WRONG fuse tap. HELP

no pos and neg on a fuse lol its power in protected power out. not sure what you are trying to do? is the fuse tap to power a relay or going straight to the lights?
there is a bus bar bolt in the fuse box that can be used for power, thats how i done mine and i used the high beam to trigger the relay with an on/off switch in the dash.

Thank you...I am looking to power the lights with 12V the easiest way possible. I am all ears if you have guidance. I wired my Smart, my FX and other vehicles by tapping into existing 12v wiring inside the car, but never messed with exterior lighting or the fuse box under the hood.

If you have an easy way to get 12v power on the red wire, please share and I would be most grateful.

Thanks,
Haze

I didn't think so....but had a brain slip. When I wired to a DC 12V power supply the lights worked, so I thought I might be plugging into the wrong side of the fuse....even though I KNEW I was doing it right.

Thank you.

How were you intending to turn them on and off?

I am wiring in an RF remote that I will keep in the car. Not really gonna use them while driving, but more for show. I added red led bars to the footwell lighting, replacing the standard bulbs front and back. When I open the Jeep, all footwells glow red, and it looks pretty badass. I was wanting to make the grill glow red, but not while driving. When I held it up last night, it looked pretty cool. The honeycomb black with the red glow behind it looked tight.

Never was one for flashy neon under the cars....but the red LED's look good. Not too overdone. I did the wheel wells of my smart car...and everyone thought they were nice.

I will post a photo when complete. Anxious to figure out how to tap into 12v in the fusebox the easiest way.

Thanks

Re: I bought the WRONG fuse tap. HELP

Welp...I ordered the CORRECT fuse tap this time. I needed a MICRO2 and not a mini. I got this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I plan to use the 20 Amp HORN fuse as it is constant, and the remote will allow me to turn it on and off.

Mini LED Controller Dimmer with RF Wireless Remote Control DC 5~24V 12A - - Amazon.com

Thanks all for tips...I will post a pic when done and you can tell me your thoughts. I am NOT doing the multicolor flashing bar that I bought...I got new red surface mount LED strip that I will mount to underside of the part that you pull away from the jeep that holds the grill. (2 pins and pull).

Thanks all.

so just unscrew the nut...use a forked or rounded power supply and tighten? Thank you. Got a spot you like to use as a ground?
