Re: I got my first door ding this weekend.

You think you guys are pissed? I dinged my door myself by opening it into the corner of a concrete pylon protecting a gas pump.

I am not used to cars with the gas tank on the drivers side.

What areas of the door are most susceptible to door dings? Does the chrome strip help to deter them or is it worthless? Would nerf bars offer the best protection?

Yeah, until someone decides to key you for being the jacka** who double, triple or quadruple parks.

The only real solution is to not drive your car. If that's not an option, I usually just drive around until I find an open end spot.

Similar situation here. Was your door ding on the crease above the chrome strip? Several years ago on a different vehicle, the dentless repair guy told me only flat surfaces dings could be repaired. New methods now perhaps?

I think the guy you talked to must not have been very experienced. I've gotten multiple dings out using PDR on my previous cars, and it almost doesn't matter where the ding is... my PDR guy can get it out. He's amazing.

I only had a ding right at a crease of my old car (2003 BMW M5) and he got it out perfectly. I yelped him a few years back and he had some great reviews.

For some reason I'm less mad when I cause the damage. Maybe it's because when other people do it, it's normally because they just don't care. When I do it, it's actually an accident.

Anyway, glad to hear the PDR worked for the OP. I bought a used car a while back and had them take out about 5-6 at one time. It ends up being cheaper that way. Think I paid under $200 and the car looked brand new afterwards.

I had a typical door ding along a creased edge of my Audi TT once that was taken out by a PDR professional. I believe the business is called Dent Wizard. I was curious about the process, so I hovered over the worker like a hawk. Seeing the dent disappear right in front of my eye was very cool experience. Those guys are awesome.

When I'm by myself, like many others, I park far, far away. I try to avoid other cars, as well as make sure that I'm not parked down hill that a shopping cart could roll down and hit me. If I can't find such spots, I try to part next to higher end vehicles, hoping they care as much about their car as I do mine. Also, I try to park on the passenger side of near by vehicles, my thinking here is that there may not be passengers in those cars, where every car will have a driver who needs to get into the car.

I'm thinking too much.

Aaaaan I just got my first one in front of the hood . Car in front of me kicked up a piece of tire and flung it on my hood! Argh, an inch probably. What a way to start the morning.... just venting.

Re: I got my first door ding this weekend.

I got my first ding exactly three days after driving off the dealer lot. It's very minor and it looks like a door was pressed agains my door and someone maybe pushed (as opposed to hitting) against their door just enough to make a very small ding. My GC is silver and it's very hard to see but I caught that little sucker from about 15' away as I walked towards it.

Re: I got my first door ding this weekend.

I have a story about those dings that happened just yesterday. I am always careful of my ride as the last one I had, a 2010 Patriot Got a very deep ding made by a puni riding a really old caravan. '97 if I am not mistaken. Then a really deep key scratch made on the liftgate of the same ride. then another.

So a usual day for me yesterday, I am looking for a perfect spot where there's a nice spot away from other vechicle, but there's nothing so I was forced to park in a spot not really favorable, as people just come in go every 15 minutes or so. After half of my shift from work, I want out to transfer my altitude, seeing there's more free spot on my usual area. As I walked to my GC, I immediately see this really long line from the front passenger door to the rear passenger door. I was already fuming mad as I try to determine how deep the scratch is, telling myself, not even a month and I got this!, and also measuring if the white civic beside my GC caused the scratch. So imagine me almost kneeling, trying to feel the cut from the side of my GC, measuring the distance of the door of the civic, and other things. Then I let a deep sigh, and I said. can do nothing now.

As I am already on a straight standing position. I said to my said, Holy macaroni!!! This is an ACURA!!! LOL. My GC is a spot after the acura. Then I gave this sigh as I inspected my ride, everything is still perfect.

BUT, going back to the thread's discussion, I too am only parking in the very end of the line and only if my co worker's new compass is beside me, because I know how he loves his ride too.

Re: I got my first door ding this weekend.

I parked in the middle of nowhere and got this:

I was lucky... No ding...but I had to climb in through the passenger side. The security guard said it was as old lady.
