Nice job on the de-chroming. It looks great. I'm new here, 2014 Summit, 5.7L.
I'm doing something different...Did Black Chrome on my mirrors to match my black chrome wheels. Might consider doing all the chrome to black chrome.

Looks good man...Love the black chrome Spider Monkeys...are those OEM SRT Wheels or Repros?

I'd go with the Black chrome over your chrome....after seeing the High Altitude this morning I really dig the black chrome look on the jeep.

I haven't been able to get my hands on a set of those or I'd be running the same wheels ..I JUST put these on this weekend...these are my Winter Tires/rims

Wow that grey jeep is a high altitude?? That's nice,I would do tha black chrome on all the rest. I've never been a blacked out kinda person but these new vehicles look good. Does anyone have pics of the interiors of these high altitudes? I'm assuming these are much different then the altitudes.

Re: If anyone is interested in DE-Chroming-here's some pics

Thanks ajag,

The wheels are factory OEM. Go to detroitwheels.com. They have a cool program. They had these 4 black chrome wheels in stock. They sent them to me and I sent my chrome wheels back to them and they do black chrome process and sell them to the next person. I paid about $250 a wheel, plus a $1000 deposit until they got my wheels, and then they refunded it. If you want I'll get the info of the guy I was working with there.

Yup, man if they made a High Altitude with the Summit gizmos...or a Summit with the High Altitude appearance package (whichever way you wanna skin that cat), I'd be on that sucker like a duck on a Junebug.

I want yall to notice how much Im really spicing up my Texas twang and use of colloquialisms for the cultural diversity benefit of the room since I've noticed most of yall are from...well...lets just say...elsewhere. hahahah

Unfortunately...FCA doesnt offer a Black(ish)-out package for the Summit. Apparent fancy-folk dont warrant subtlety. So...If I want the best of both worlds, I gotsta do it myself. (Just keep writing checks).

I'm gonna be using this entire thread as my blueprint and I very much appreciate ALL of the pointers along the way.

JTS....I'll send you a PM for a side bar question so that I dont further hijack this discussion.

Neither. Those are black chrome Summit wheels. You can find them on eBay. I have them in my saved list as I was always curious how they look, and based on how his Summit looks...they're awesome!!!

Ecloud,
Your Summit looks awesome!! You could keep the black chrome theme going and ordering all the black chrome parts from the high altitude when they become available.

Thanks! Yes they are the Summit wheels. I did the Black Chrome on the Mirrors myself yesterday with DupliColor Shadow black chrome paint system. I'd love to order black chrome OEM trim but I can't find it for a Grand Cherokee...The paint is about a 90% match but I'm not sure how it will hold up. Painting chrome is tricky and not really ever done. I watched the DupliColor guys do a black chrome wheel on youtube.

Is that duplicator stuff permanent and how does it look up close? And yeah the High Altitude parts don't seem to be available yet. Would love to see a close up picture of the mirrors.

Yes it's permanent, not to say that it probably could be removed with a paint thinner. Up close it has a little bit of a speckled look to it, but you have to look really close. I was willing to do it because if I screwed up my mirror covers, I can handle $80-$100 to buy new ones. I wouldn't even attempt to do this on wheels. I'll see If I can get a close up picture for you. I happy with the duplicolor result but I will replace when I can get a true black chrome mirror cover.

Here's the video of the process: https://youtu.be/6ziO0ZytLuE

Re: If anyone is interested in DE-Chroming-here's some pics

Hey guys...I did the Duplicolor Black Chrome paint on my entire Front End ...that's how I got it to look black ...up close it's not that great though...it does look a little speckled and inconsistent.

I didn't really care if it came out perfect because I am having my SRT body package installed in the spring...so I figured I'd try this black paint as an experiment. I wouldn't recommend it for large pieces if you really want a professional look...i'll take some close up pics of mine.

I painted the Grill Rings/Mesh Grill upper and lower...Fog light bezels ..and also that chrome lower surround as well...overall it looks great from about 3 feet away though but not what I would want for a permanent solution.

if you want the black chrome I'd go for the High Altitude rings and just the srt black honeycomb grille

and then wrap the lower chrome with some black chrome vinyl if you cannot use the HA pieces
