I didn't really care if it came out perfect because I am having my SRT body package installed in the spring...so I figured I'd try this black paint as an experiment. I wouldn't recommend it for large pieces if you really want a professional look...i'll take some close up pics of mine.

I painted the Grill Rings/Mesh Grill upper and lower...and also that chrome lower surround as well...overall it looks great from about 3 feet away though but not what I would want for a permanent solution.

if you want the black chrome I'd go for the High Altitude rings and just the srt black honeycomb grille

and then wrap the lower chrome with some black chrome vinyl if you cannot use the HA pieces
Where do you get an SRT8 Body Package from and how much is it?

For you it would be a LOT cheaper and easier than it was for me ...you could technically just use the SRT8 Front end as you already have the flares ...the rear is fine on the summit if you ask me...you could just do the front bumper cover and you'd need the DRl's and possibly the projectors...not sure if you'rs would work on the srt nose.

Well.....it's taken me a while to piece it all together but I can tell you it's NOT cheap ..because mine is a limited...no flares

I bought the front and rear bumper covers from Ebay- cost ~$600
Side Rockers- used off SRT- ~$400
Flares- Bought these from Sarona(fiberglass) - $520
DRL Leds'- $600
Projector Lights - $250
Bezels for the lights and lower bezels /grills etc for the front- ~ $300
Rear lower grill(goes around the tail pipes) -~$200
Trufiber Carbon fiber rear Step- ~$275
Trufiber 1 piece upper front Grill(No longer need grill Rings)- ~$700
miscellaneous nuts/bolts/clips etc...~$150

So WITHOUT paint...I'm close to $4,000 invested at this point...and that was shopping for a deal where possible...you can buy an SRT Body package alot cheaper if you choose not to use OEM stuff...but I wanted to go with as much OEM as I could...except for the Carbon fiber front Grille and flares..

I've been getting estimates of around $2,000 to paint and install the body parts ....so all in it's around a $6,000 ish project

and that doesn't include the work its going to take to wire up the DRL Led's up front...still not sure how that's going to work out

also...I'm doing the Black Ops Front lower lip and a custom diffuser cover in the back...which is going to add an additional $1,500 once installed ...

Man...should have just bought the damn SRT8

It'll look sweet when it's done! Did you make it sound like an SRT8? I had cold air intake and performance exhaust added to mine...it sounds bad ass and the increase in HP is noticeable. The only other thing I might do to mine is get the SRT8 hood and get some nice looking break calipers.

Its called the SRT now, not SRT8 ;-) Pet peeve of mine haha. What did you do for the exhaust since the Summit is extremely limited on exhaust systems? I'm waiting for the Corsa system which I'm hoping we get an update on soon in the performance section (see Summit 5.7 Corsa thread).
As far as calipers I'm not sure what you would do besides maybe paint them gloss black or something. You could upgrade to the SRT brakes, but thats not cheap. Also, even though I know its still not a pretty setup to look at, but I believe the V8 models come with a heavier duty brake setup.

I did a K&N cold air intake and a Flow Master Exhaust System...it has a really nice throaty sound but not so obnoxious that you can't hear yourself think. My next door neighbor can hear me fire it up though! It took about 4 hours and cost around $900.

Re: If anyone is interested in DE-Chroming-here's some pics

I would suggest looking at a High Altitude in person. I did and it's the look of a Jeep I wanted inside and out, so I bought one in briliant black with HK 19 speaker system.

Pic of it the day I took delivery (a week and a half ago), stopped by my parents house to show it to them and took this not so great picture of it in extremely bright sunlight with just a digital camera.

No, my jeep isn't an altitude or high altitude, it's a Summit. Someone just posted a picture of their high-altitude and the end of this thread and it looks really nice!

Do the altitudes or high altitudes also have the air suspension that the overland does? I'm curious about the feel of the ride and the height.

All this information is easily searchable on this site or on the web, but here is a basic description of the different models.

The regular Altitude is based off the Laredo which is more of a base model. Only engine option is the V6 and it has standard coil springs. The High Altitude is based off the Overland with more of a "blacked out" Summit exterior package. Has all the features and gadgets you could want and uses the Quadra-Lift air suspension. V6, Eco Diesel, and V8 engines are available.

Keep in mind that if you decide to do the SRT calipers/Brakes you'll need to change out your Rims...those Summit wheels will not clear the calipers ...that's why I've been using the Spider Monkeys ...Because I knew they'd clear the calipers on my Brembos ...doing the hood is easy ...

Mine is only a V6 so there's no making it sound like an SRT ...unfortunately...

I did have a custom exhaust fabricated though..I went with a full stainless custom X-pipe setup and deleted the front muffler ...that feeds to a Gibson Cat back system

sounds ok...not too obnoxious...but not the same growl as a V8..thats for sure

BUT...I did Supercharge my setup so it puts down 330HP to the wheels...and I can hang with any Stock SRT ...I can't beat them but I don't lose by much...lol

It does surprise other jeep owners when they pull up next to me and try to drag me off the line...I haven't spent a ton of time playing with the 0-60 but I did give it a few tries...and my best to date is a 0-60 of 4.8 secs

not bad for a little V6

Here's what mine sounds like though

I tried to get a close up of the black chrome paint on the grill rings but it didn't come out too well...you might be able to see the "spottiness" of the paint
