Ionic Running Boards <- Plasti Dipped -> Rear Chrome Brow & Reverse Light LEDs

Installed the Ionic CXV Running Boards (thanks to all in the other recent running board threads! You know who you are)

Didn't like the chrome trim on these side steps, so figured I'd break out the ol' can of plasti dip. While i was at it, also decided to finally tackle the rear chrome bar. Got the wife involved who helped mask off the Jeep letters so i could leave them chrome.

I had some LEDs for the reverse lights waiting to go in, so removed the chrome from the bolts on the inside while i had the interior panel removed. Enjoy the pics!

After three coats

While that dries, lets change out the reverse bulbs

Left one stock yellow bulb on the driver side edge to try and capture color difference:

Installed:

Now for the Ionic boards:

Tried to capture the reverse at night with my phone:

Boards in better light:

Next project: Tint the tail lights.........

Looks good! What did you use to paint the running boards?

looks pretty sweet. if mine was black I'd consider doing the same. I like the look of the black Ionics (I have the same boards). on my car though I think the chrome ties the car together. nice work!

Re: Ionic Running Boards <- Plasti Dipped -> Rear Chrome Brow & Reverse Light LEDs

Thanks fellas! Gotta love plastidip.

Captin K... i hear you about leaving yours chrome. You have a true blue 2014, right? I saw the pics of your boards, and since you just have the chrome lettering on the side, the chrome edge boards really do go nicely.

With us 2011-2012's we already have that huge chrome bar running along side our door that the running boards just made it overkill. Chunderboy has true blue 2011/2012 style and just posted up his dipped boards. Good stuff!

Mine were delivered yesterday. I can't wait to get them on this week. They look very easy to install.

Like the look, regret not doing mine prior to install.. One ? , any concerns over it coming off as you enter / exit the vehicle ? I know when I exit, my foot has a tendency to hit the edge where the chrome is, concern would be I end up chipping away at the plastidip

I did it while still on the car and no problem whatsoever. Just put some painters tape on the black portion of the board (slightly above the chrome). Make sure the tape is standing parallel to the car door to eliminate over-spray on the doors and spray away with a bias towards the bottom of the steps. I did 5 coats and it came out without any issue.
