JRoll's Uber-Tech Cabin Filter for WK2

I got lazy and had not changed out the cabin filer yet. No wonder why my Jeep smelled like Monkeybutt.

So when JRoll offered to provide his custom filter for a proto test, I was in: I need guinea pigs in denver

Stock paper filter after 12k miles and 12 months. Can't believe this thing cost $40+?

Get a load of the doodoo that came out of the above stock filter after a year. Throw away stock filter, cannot be reused.

JRoll's Stainless Steel Tech Mesh Marvel. Hose it down every few months, let it dry, and reinstall.

WTF is in this thing, Kryponite?

Fits perfectly in the WK2. JRoll does this for commercial buildings so my gut says this thing is over-engineered for an automobile cabin filter.

Bigtime props to JRoll. IMO, you need to produce these for WK2, WK, and anyone else in Jeep Garage.

Re: JRoll's Uber-Tech Cabin Filter for WK2

Very Nice I didn't like how the factory filter easily deforms - this appears to solve that issue as well. The replacment I picked up from the parts department was also deformed and needed to be stretched back into shape.

JRoll1ns - How do I get my hands on one of these bad boys?

Re: JRoll's Uber-Tech Cabin Filter for WK2

Looks sturdy and fits perfect. Think it will filter just as well as a paper filter? Based on the pictures its hard to tell how fine the new mesh is compared to a paper filter. Obviously a paper filter it has to go through the paper, but with mess there's lots of voids/open space? Fill us in! Thanks and great looking product JRoll1ns

Re: JRoll's Uber-Tech Cabin Filter for WK2

J13, the HVAC expert will have to chime in here, but there are multiple layers of progressively finer stainless and poly mesh. It looks like a 10-layer lasagna made by Romulens.

My guess is that if this system is used on commercial buildings of 100,000 SF or more, and moving tons of CFM of air, dirt, smells, and particulates, then it's perhaps more robust than the stock paper for both filtering and durability.

Awesome! I want one.

But, when are we going to have one that uses the synergy of germicidal UV rays to energize a TiO2 coated catalyst??
No more odor!

Re: JRoll's Uber-Tech Cabin Filter for WK2

i'm no air filtration scientist, but i bet it's definitely not as good as the micron paper filter.

unless it's like those air electronic cleaner filters in homes.

Re: JRoll's Uber-Tech Cabin Filter for WK2

We use the stainless for hospitals and large commercial applications. The filtration is comparable to a standard filter. The stainless washable filter has more surface area than a pleated filter, a small amount of static electricity is also created by the air going across the filter resulting in an attraction of the dust. With that said we usually have them made 2" thick. So I'm having Moose and a couple other guys test them for performance before I put these things out there. Oh and its good for 53,000 hours of use before it needs replaced. It still needs washed every once in a while but it will virtually never need replaced.

To answer the questions about smell I am actually looking to have some pleated cloth filters made with active carbon. I'm trying to get my vendor to get them down below OEM 'cause I think 40-50 bucks for a factory replacement is ridiculous.

Yeah but paying $40-50 or a little more for one that will never have to be replaced sounds like a good deal to me!!!

Re: JRoll's Uber-Tech Cabin Filter for WK2

Ok so I got my alternate vendor to get the carbon filter down to a reasonable price. Going to get some made after the new year. Some details, they have a poly filtering media filled with active carbon and alumina these products remove dust as well as odors. The filters have an internal metal frame so that they seal around the edges, this is important because any air leakage would allow odors in the cabin. The idea behind this concept of using this product came from driving by a sewage treatment plant everyday as well as noticing that my WK2 would not stay in recerc mode to avoid the smells. These filters are not washable, they will be disposable and there longevity will be entirely based on dusty environments as well as time spent in traffic. The more diesel and auto fumes the charcoal sucks up the shorter the lifespan. These will be for WK2 Vehicles only
