Ive always been told by my buddies how own body shops that getting rear ended with a receiver in the hitch or another type of attachment in the hitch increases the chance of the frame getting bent. When they hit your bumper it takes the impact of the hit. If they hit your hitch receiver or step that impact is transferred directly to the frame.

my thinking on this is 10 mph or below this will protect my bumper and lift gate anything above that since this is basically a steel spear should go right through their radiator then my bumper will absorb the rest. of course i am no rocket surgeon but thats my theory.

10 mph is faster then you think. I had someone pull in front of me while I was doing 30 mph and I flipped them over.

Someone hits you and bends what ever it is you have sticking out, that force is going directly to the frame. What if they have a push bar or it hits their steel bumper? Just saying.
