I've been trying to come up with a solution to get some better light out of mine (also stock halogens), but it doesn't seem like there are many solutions without the somewhat big drawbacks, in my opinion. I do find the halogens to be a bit dim and too yellow (color isn't the issue really), but the biggest problem is they aren't throwing light far or wide enough.
After reading through this thread, What's the verdict on LED headlight bulbs vs. HID?
, it seems like the GTR Lighting LED kit is probably the best option for using LEDs in the stock housing, but the beam cutoff is still pretty bad and they still don't throw light like an HID, from the looks of the user submitted test photos. I really don't want to blind oncoming traffic too because I know how annoying that is to experience.
HIDs in the stock housing also seem like it has its share of drawbacks too that I wouldn't want to commit that much money and effort to get those results. Sounds like people get the random shadows, hot spots, flickering and they still don't throw the light like they do with the HID housings. So it definitely isn't a solution for me.
Now the only other option is to do a complete retrofit and get inside the housing to add some new projectors, which is a huge DIY undertaking or a huge chunk of $ to be professionally done, if I can even find some place that will do it locally.
Sorry for the bit of a rant, just thought I'd share my findings and thought process so far. If anyone has any insight, please feel free to chime in too.
