LED headlight experience?

I'm seriously considering '17 Summit for my 3d GC & wonder whether the LED headlights work well in low beam as well as high. Also, in ice/snow conditions is there a danger that they would be obscured since they don't generate heat to melt ice & snow? Thanks, I'm a newbie here & the site is very informative!

Re: LED headlight experience?

LED's seem very interesting. Whenever I see a Toyota Corolla I feel like it's lights are bright bright bright. I can always tell when one is driving towards me.

As far a melting snow. I get that LED's are not going to produce heat but at the same time, I have HID's and they are so far from the outside casing I would be surprised if they were actually melting snow. Could be 100% wrong but It's not like the headlight housing is "warm"

I've been driving in snow/sleet/rain/ice during winter for over 30 years.

Having halogen headlights does not insure that they will not be coated with snow/ice. I've driven through many a snowstorm where I've had to pull over on the side of the road and clean off headlights (and wiper blades).

In fact, 2 years ago I drove through a freezing rain storm for 3 hours and had ice caked all over the front of the Jeep including the headlights (with halogen bulbs at the time).

I've switched to LED headlight bulbs and have NO regrets. They are just as bright, if not brighter than the OEM halogen bulbs.

I also run JW Speaker LED fog lights and they are 10x better than the OEM fog lights.

The 'pure' white light (5000k or 6000k) of the LEDs is much better than the yellow light of the halogen bulbs.

I've had good experience with HIDs and LEDs. I can't stand regular halogen bulbs anymore, they seem really dim and yellow comparatively now. I've also retrofit a few LED foglights like these with good experience.

I believe the only LED lights on a 17 Summit are the fogs. The headlights are still HID.

My LED head light bulbs are from V-LEDs, but they no longer carry the model that I have.

In my humble/personal opinion I would stay away from any that have a fan as I'm not sure how long that would last.

Mine have a large heat sink, but the more recent fan-less versions have a braid as a heat sink.
