Question LED in DRL- CANbus or not?

Title pretty much says it all. The DRL don't blink or give an idiot light if they go out. Any reason to pay the extra money for them?

Re: LED in DRL- CANbus or not?

I'm not sure I understand the question. I like the quality of the light that the LED lamps I put in my DRLs brings, but you are correct that there is no indicator if one stops working. That's what the glass windows in front of the bank ATM lobby are for...

Re: LED in DRL- CANbus or not?

Your DRL may be a different bulb, but on XD's website there is an option.
3157 LED Philips Bulb | P21W/5W LED bulb | Philips 3157 Vision bulb
Vehicles with or without CANbus. I'm assuming the difference is a $14 resistor (yikes!) but the fact is all modern vehicles run on CANbus. If the only reason is for the "light out" warning or if used in turn signals to prevent hyper flash then I can save the cash. If there is another reason then any current production car should opt for the expensive option

No CAN-BUS bulbs needed for 2011-2013 drls the circuit is not monitored by the can bus system.

Re: LED in DRL- CANbus or not?

That's what I figured. Thanks for the confirmation. I wasn't 100% sure since some vehicles (my BMW) will shut a circuit down for high or low current draw. Even though it may not give you a message.
Bulbs on order!

Re: LED in DRL- CANbus or not?

After the DRL (3157) bulbs on my 2013 JGC has been burned twice, I changed these to LED and forgot about this.

Re: LED in DRL- CANbus or not?

Long term report- The LED are just fine. No need to order the "CANbus" version for DRL.

Which ones did you go with? I would like to swap my DRLs for LED, but I don't want to damage the housings.

I've had each stock one burn out twice now and it's only been 2 years.

Re: LED in DRL- CANbus or not?

psurob12, the LEDs available from forum sponsor XenonDepot are a direct fit replacement for the OEM halogen bulbs that burn out easily and get hot enough to cook a steak on...

It appears they say in the XenonDepot thread that they don't recommend LEDs for the DRLs. Is that not the case any longer?

Re: LED in DRL- CANbus or not?

I haven't read that thread...but I've truly enjoyed having LEDs in my DRLs. They match my headlights and fogs (the latter are now also LED) in color and as a very anal person, I appreciate that!

There are 3 different kinds of 3157 bulbs on their site....

3157 bulbs | 3157 LED bulbs | 3157 automotive bulbs

Which did you go with? Any issues thus far?
