LED interior light question ?

picked up a kit from Precision LED that replaces the dome, map, courtesy and truck bulbs. When i went to install them today and watched the video they have on Youtube they seem to skip over replacing the map lights and in their video they show them as halogen as they demonstrate the dome lights. I have a little package with the two bulbs but the OEM bulb is a weird shape and looks like a PITA to get out. I dont want to force it and damage something so was just curious if others had replaced this bulb or not

Re: LED interior light question ?

Ok in that picture the whiter bulbs are replaceable. Just a simple 194 wedge bulb. Just pull the entire overhead console down to remove, then twist the bulbs out. The yellowish bulbs believe it or not are LEDs! However they are not replaceable. They are LED chips soldered onto a board. So unless you are good at soldering and know what LED chip to buy, you're pretty much stuck with what you see. That's basically why I won't be changing the bulbs in my WK2 because the color difference in those bulbs look pretty bad IMO. Unless you can find a warmer white LED such as 4500k, that would match that existing LED light pretty good.

The brighter bulbs are LED's that I used from the kit, thanks for answering my question about the other ones though, I wonder what the 'dome lights' in the kit are for then ? Guess I'll call them tomorrow and see, maybe they'll swap them for footwell or vanity bulbs

Re: LED interior light question ?

Yeah
Just pull the whole thing down and disconnect the map lights

That's what I did
It's actually a piece of cake..the whole assembly just comes off if you pull down ..it's only held up by a couple clips ..

Yeah he understands that, but he is referring to the forward most bulbs (the yellower ones), which like I said are LEDs from the factory, but are a warm white color that closely matches the yellow filament bulbs.

That's the ones I'm talking about

They are led and I couldn't find any whiter ones so I unplugged them in my jeep

If you take apart the console you can unplug them

Re: LED interior light question ?

I'm quite experienced in soldering so I'll throw the offer out there if you send me the PCBs i'll put new LEDs on there for you. At cost of course.

Re: LED interior light question ?

It's possible, I changed it out and it's not as difficult as it looks. I was only semi-confident with a soldering iron and I made it work. I got the little component LEDs from superbrightleds.com (only $.65 each for the cool white lights, which is what you want for that white led look), so get a few to spare. Just solder off the led, and solder the thin ribbon wire leads to the new led and you should be good to go!

Re: LED interior light question ?

Would it be just as easy to replace the dim, amber mood led in that console, too? I'd like to replace it with a brighter blue led. I'd also like to add another blue led in each door map pocket.
