Install is straight forward, but you do have to remove the rear cargo interior trim. With the right trim stick, takes 5 minutes to pop off/on (having a 2nd person helps FYI). I have done 3 WK2's now and could do all reverse lights in under 10 mins now.

So I was at it this past weekend swapping interior bulbs.. For whatever reason, I am unable to remove the map and license plate lights.. I didn't want to destroy the bulbs just yet. So am I missing something? Maybe a release of some sort? I had no problem with the rear passenger (upper ones with the handle).. Which are the same style bulb..

Digging the better light output so far!
Thanks,

My license plate bulbs are already LED's and I think yours are as well...I did not need to change mine out

I used a watch screwdriver for the tight spots; and strong tape on the overheads helped. A couple different plastic trim tools also helped out a lot!

Hmm strange.. Mine are for sure not LED.. Maybe 14+ got the upgrade. They are the same bulbs as the rear map lights.. I'll have to try the electrical tape. Thanks for the input.. Can't wait to have all LED.. Weird looking with the upper rear passenger lights LED and everything else OEM.. Haha

And thanks for the link Jeepstare.. When spring comes along, I think I will go for the re-soldering too.

Re: LED Interior Lights

The WK2 didn't get factory LED plate lights until 2014.

So back to interior lights. I tried some on my 2014 Summit when I had that and they worked fine with the exception of them not turning on sometimes. Say you want to turn an individual bulb on sometimes it wouldn't go on. Its almost as if the lack of draw from the LED bulb isn't enough for the Grand Cherokee electrical system to realize there is a bulb installed and wont turn it on. They all come on like normal though when opening doors. Are people just dealing with it or what?

I noticed this occurs since I installed the LED interior bulbs. Don't care for it, but having the LED's is more important than putting those dull stock candle bulbs back in place.

I am not having this issue...I can turn on any over-head light at any time (Jeep on/off/running). What bulbs are you using?

Well I have tried it with a couple different LED bulbs actually. I have tried the Osram LED bulbs that you can get at local retailers, as well as other random ebay LED bulbs with same results. That was in my 2014 Summit, I now have a 2015 High Altitude which I have not messed around with the LEDs. Maybe I will try them in my new 2015 and see if I get the same results.
One way that I know I could duplicate the issue was say you turn the Jeep off and stay in the car for a while and all the electronics "go to sleep" which usually takes maybe 30 seconds at most. Then if you try and turn on an individual light it wouldn't go on unless you manually turn on all the bulbs or open a door. I'll report back with my findings on the new 2015 since I think I read that have a different electrical architecture.

Re: LED Interior Lights

Good news, got my reverse lights installed - pic attached. Not the best photo, but it captures the white light and the similar white hue and brightness, WAY brighter great for night-time reversing, lol.

Outside reverse lights - Putco White 7440 360 degree plasma LED bulbs ($64 Amazon)
Inside reverse light - JDM Astar super bright 30-ex chipsets 921 912 LED bulbs ($17 amazon)

Install was a breeze, cause I paid someone to do it. Also hardwired my radar detector and fog lights.

Can you post some pictures of this? I am planning on hardwiring my Valentine V1 with a MirrorTap, but am still going back and forth on the mounting location.

Can take one tmrw, no different than the other pics here with a blendmount and mirror tap. Blend mount is pretty pricey tho, little blue label lock tight helps too, the red is permanent, so don't use that.
