led light bar

I saw a real slick install of a LED light bar on a GC when I did a google image search a few weeks back. I think it led me back to this forum anyway. He had installed it behind the lower grill and it fit perfectly. Little research and I find out that it is a 22" bar. Multiple manufactures make them in that size. I went with the OPT7 bar. I was able to pick it up, with harness on Amazon for about $110.00. I did a you tube search and found a video on how to remove the front bumper. Turns out there is no other way to get behind there. It came off with a few bolts and some one time use plastic rivets. It took about 20 minutes to take off. I ended up drilling through the lower radiator support and hung the light from that. I used some 1/4" self tapping screws with Loctite. I ran wires under the windshield rain tray, and into the cabin via the main wiring grommet below the steering wheel shaft, and mounted the switch just to the right of the gas flap button. The only issue I am having is/was trying to figure out if I wanted it level, or slightly inclined. I have a large spot pattern on the road right in front of me. However I don't want to blind drivers if I raise it.

Re: led light bar

nice. I mounted mine behind the grills, and fed the wire through the firewall under the glove compartment.

Re: led light bar

Looks great. Never thought about the upper grill. That must be blinding to oncoming traffic. Lol

How tough was this install? And what size led bar?

Re: led light bar

An LED bar mounted higher up will provide less shadows and more useful light. If you are using a bar with mixed lights (flood and spot) you will find that the wide ones will not be too useful getting out the sides of the grill.

I used spots behind the grill which worked quite well. Here is the link:

sorry for the late response. The LED bar is I think 20-something inches, and it was the one that came as a combo set with the ebay bull bar ( which has now been removed). Install wasn't difficult. I had to bend up the brackets that came with the kit in order for it to attach behind the grill. What I did was use the mounting points for the two horns to attach the brackets. The two points allowed the light bar to land dead center of the grill. Then I reattached the horn to the brackets. Not a hard job once you shape the brackets to the right angle and position.
