Lighting question HIDs and high beams

So, my GC is going to be at the dealer for a while as they are fixing the heated seats. They have some parts backordered and the truck is apart, so they are holding her.

I've been reading all I can in the meanwhile, especially about the lighting.
She is a 2011 Limited 3.6 with factory HIDs, and they seem to move when I turn them on (though I will check more thoroughly when I get her back).

My question is, since I don't have DRLs (sure of that), and the HIDs use a shutter for high beam, what is the light between the HID and turn signal doing?

If I had the truck I would walk out there and turn on everything and see if they come on, but she isn't here.

If that light isn't being used (if I understand what I'm reading on other threads) is there anything that would keep me from installing a relay, separate H11 socket, and another switch to allow me to turn on another H11 in that position for off roading?

I would unplug and seal the existing socket, so she could be returned to stock if needed. Would it pop up bad bulb warnings on the Canbus?

Like I said if she was here I'd walk out there and test, just not sure when the dealer will let me have her back. Figured you guys might know.

Thanks!

If you have the HID headlights, the lamp housing just inside the headlights is your DRLs. If they are not lighting when the vehicle is in Drive or Reverse, then the bulbs are burnt out. They will NOT light if the vehicle is in Park or Neutral. They are easily replaced with LED lamps which are longer lived than the OEM halogen bulbs and have a color that's closer to your HID headlights.

Aha! One more thing to have the dealer replace under the 30 day bumper to bumper everything warranty!!

Note...
The bulbs used for the DRLs in the HID equipped headlights are NOT halogen bulbs.

They are simple incandescent 3157 bulbs (or is it 3156 - single filament?).
Anyway...
The only "halogen" bulbs EVER used in a vehicle are in the head lights or fog lights.
The DRLs, tail lights, brake lights, and any marker lights all use simple incandescent bulbs (though you can buy them with some krypton gas in them to increase the lumens a little over conventional bulbs).
