argh!! the dealer originally quoted me $60 for the install and then called and said $180 to swap out the grille, so i didnt do it

What are folks paying for a grill swap. $180 seems very excessive to me.
I did install the side strips (also plastidipped). I love the look.

...looks good so far. That stuff holds up well as long as you did good prep work first. I have used that on mirror covers in the past. I have found you have to sand well into the chrome. If not, chip/ peeling will happen fast from bug/ rock hits/ preasure washer.

Did you get a detailed quote on the grille swap? Did it show how many hours of labor? It's not that big of a job. 1 hour should be enough time. Most shop rates are $80 to $110/ hour.

I think look will be well worth it. Before you put it on, hit with a preasure washer and make sure it holds up. That would be a real pita if you have to do it twice.

The rep called and said 1.5 to 2 hours of labor. i didnt sand the chrome. im just experimenting with the blacked out look. If i really like it over time, ill get this done professionally. For the grille, i think the front chrome piece is removable without removing the bumper ? my problem is that im switching out the limited grille for the overland grille at the same time. And the chrome pieces are not compatible between the two.

Re: Matte black grille?

OK. i got the grille done today at rockville motors in MD.. Great shop, got it done for a reasonable $80..

That said, during the install some of the plastidip chipped off.. argh, i expected it though (shouldve been more careful). Here are some pics - cant tell from more than a foot away that the pastidip had come off in places. I took the chrome plastidipp'd piece off again. Interestingly enough, i like the naked grille look the best

so now im a bit torn -- options
1) Leave the mesh grille as is without the chrome piece. It makes the Jeep look very rugged. love the look.
2) Paint the chrome piece body color
3) Paint the chrome piece flat black
4) plastidip again, and be more careful during install this time.

That said, i love the fact that i was able to remove all the plastidip within 5 minutes off the grille to reveal the chrome still in like new condition.

Re: Matte black grille?

I like chrome or body-color grille and remove the side molding for the best look in my opinion.

Re: Matte black grille?

Your jeep looks good with the black grille. But I think that it would look even better with the color matched grille.

I just did my grille the same brilliant black as the body. Yours will looks even better than mine since you have those 20's on it.

I removed and installed the grill myself. It was pretty easy. I had never taken a car apart like that. I could give you a few good links to write ups if you want. It took me about 2 hours to take off and install the new one with just my 2 hands.

Its looks like your from MD? What part are you from I grew up in the Aspen Hill / Rockville area.

Re: Matte black grille?

im in rockville. that grille looks sweet. Question, did you have to do anything special before the paint.. i.e remove to remove the chrome ?

Im getting the mirrors done in body color monday. Could also get the grille done at the same time.

Sup man,

I didn't do the paint work I just installed it, but the guy that did it said he took all off the chrome off first before he did it. I would ask the body shop to so it. Is that an overland or a limited? I'm interested to see how it's gonna look since you have that chrome piece on the bottom front bumper piece. I think it will look good.

The body color front grille will look sick, you should def have the body shop do it along with the mirrors.

From the pics it looks like Aspen hill / rockville hs area. I miss md but I love Hawaii
