Smile Mineral Gray splotchy-ness

I think my area got a batch of Mineral grey jeeps that have splotchy paint. Mine included. I only see it in a certain light, and out of the 8 JGK with my color. 7 others have the same thing, so I am asking if any of you other MG Jeeps have noticed it. It is not bad, but I notice it. Also, I have tried to show it to others but they don't notice it. I have great eyesight, so I hope my eyes aren't playing tricks on me. But I would like some input.

So, do you other MG Jeep owners ever notice it or did I get a bad paint job. Either way, I still love this car.

If so, please reply.

If not, still please reply.

If you work in the autobody industry, was my "New" car repainted or fixed at the dealership?

I think I notice this all over, but would like some input. Once again, it doesn't look bad, but I still see it.

Re: Mineral Gray splotchy-ness

Hey Chris when I was waiting for my financing to be finalized before I signed the line for my Maximum Steel GC, yum, I went outside and was looking at the Liberty's. I was looking at a Bronze colored Liberty and on the rear bumper it had a like a wavy drip/run look to it. It was definitely more visible when the sun was hitting it, so it's not your eyes playing tricks on you I have seen a couple Jeeps with paint issues. So with that being said Mineral Grey is a kick ass color and sorry you didn't notice it before you bought it :-(

Re: Mineral Gray splotchy-ness

google it, i think there's a TSB on it - but i won't let some hack use a polish on my paint job from the jeep dealership.

i have the same thing, it doesn't bother me - reminds me of reflections when the sky is bright with clouds

Re: Mineral Gray splotchy-ness

I noticed it too on my MG JGC, I run a body shop for a living so paint and body work jump right out at me when I look at cars. I noticed it immediately. It's not so bad and I wont be taking it into my shop to be taken apart and resprayed, but I also must say that these cars have some of the worst factory paint I've seen... Ive been driving VW's and Audi's for years and in the paint dept, there is no comparison. The German auto makers use different base and clearcoat and are a little more stringent in their application of it, and its noticeable in the final product, not to mention that I've already counted about 11 specks of dust in the factory paint (and no, it wasn't done by the dealer after they took delivery) which I will be wet sanding and buffing out.
Anyway, aside from that I absolutely love my Jeep and am very impressed with the build quality overall.

I have the same condition on my mineral gray. Some parts are more visible than others

Re: Mineral Gray splotchy-ness

My 12 Overland has a couple areas that look darker, but its only in a certain light and angles. It doesnt bother me one bit, but just wanted to throw it out there that I have too noticed it. If I remember correctly a couple areas on the hood and some on the upper area of the doors kind of in the door handle area. It almost looks like the paint sprayer sprayed a couple smaller areas of darker mineral gray paint in those areas. Not sure how else to describe it, but only I notice it and it doesnt bother me.
I absolutely would not bother getting it fixed. I would much prefer my Jeep all original and untouched then repainted or wetsanded or whatever they would have to do.

Re: Mineral Gray splotchy-ness

My 2013 MG has three perfectly round light spots on the hood. Two small ones and one large one. I tried polishing them out when I cleaned the car, but no go. They are only visible in certain light and at an angle. I was wondering if they used suction cup devices to move parts in the factory, as we had the same type of spots on the outside of the glass sunroof.

I will show this to the dealer when I take her in, but no repaint unless the hood starts to peel. I already reported to Chrysler in a survery they sent.

Re: Mineral Gray splotchy-ness

Is this the sort of splotchy-ness you mean? Or something else? The vehicle in the photos below are from a Jan 2012 build.

Can anyone share some photos of the spotchy-ness on their Mineral Grey vehicles.

Re: Mineral Gray splotchy-ness

mm1964, I can't really see anything in your picture (I guess thats a good thing). But my spotchyness is more all over the car, not just in one spot. I'll see if I can get shots of it.

Re: Mineral Gray splotchy-ness

The spots on mine seems slightly darker than the rest of the paint, not lighter like some guys above are reporting. I will see if I can get some pics of mine, but might be hard to capture.

Re: Mineral Gray splotchy-ness

I noticed this on a couple MG i checked out at my dealer the last time I was there. My 07 Tahoe that was a metallic gray had the same issue and I've seen it with other metallics in the gray tones by different manufactures as well. Who knows... It could just be combination of things...color along with the metallic and the fact its being sprayed by robotic machines.
