Fourwheelin7, would you please have any tips or photos for lamin-x install on the rear lenses, especially the inboards with beveled lower edges? I've seen the vids, just looks tricky here with need for some heat applied. Thanks.

+1 BP

Re: Mod Squad

Will do, was looking at that, I've done a lot of windows and such, but will see how those go when I get them. Already can tell is probably not gonna be as easy as they make it look!

Got the Lamin-x in hand. Very high quality product and kit, but it definitely is going to be a PITA to get the rears applied properly given the curvature and bezels on the inboard lenses. The Lamin-x is thick so waiting for 70 degree ambient temps this weekend to assist the heat guns. Dubious this is gonna happen correctly with my ham fisted abilities.

FWIW, I've checked around a few places locally and the guys that do tinted tails are using different product than window tint, but thinner than the Lamin-x. It's also only available in darker tints, I'd prefer the mid-range tint of the gunsmoke Lamin-x but may not have much choice unless this elevates to one of the third-party spray on tint shops.

Sorry robpp, didn't do a separate thread but have commented that the Bwoody Links noticeably help stop the tippy feeling at slow to moderate speeds - such as when changing lanes or on highway ramps. They also don't seem to effect the vertical suspension compliance which is nice, though I haven't flexed the Beast offroad yet. The only area that the JGC still gets swaying is high speed hairpins, but that's my problem diving an SUV into turns. Note the control arms needed slightly larger diameter holes to mount the Bwoody Links, though not an issue. Looking forward to seeing the sway gear on the 2012 SRT8.

Conclusion: I gotta stop smoking the Mod Crack, it's starting to interfere with other stuff which evidently is a sign of addiction.

Re: Mod Squad

Moosehead,

I don't have experience with the Lamin X but I just had my Summit in for a clear bra and wanted the installer to do the headlights and fogs also. I had installed Xpel myself on my Commander and liked the results. However, my installer does not like to do the headlights as he had problems with current model Corvettes and some Dodge Rams (on his bosses Ram BTW) where they had HID lights and the heat generated cracked the lenses.

He said GM put out a memo where they would not honor the warranty on headlight lenses on Corvettes if they had a protectant film on them. I didn't follow up on it but it might be worth looking into. (I did not have it done by the way-chicken).

Re: Mod Squad

I delayed the lamin-x install for perhaps the effort of jon's tinted tails, though huge props and thanks to 4wheelin' cause his tails came out great (yea, i was admiring your ass). Meanwhile, BT parts haven't yet arrived.

Sooooo, did a little knob mod while waiting.

EDIT: thanks Bosca per your note below: got this '09 SRT8 knob off ebay at towbin dodge (link follows), install was clean though had to increase the diameter of the knob shaft opening ever so slightly with a drill bit to get the collar to lock up onto the knob without excessive force. justforjeeps.com has the nicer looking SRT8 knob with the rivets on the top ring, though it's a tad pricey.
