Re: Mod Squad

Totally unnecessary stereo upgrade on deck. Every installer who hears this system says the same thing I've been thinking, only they know what they are doing.

No way the stock/upgraded 500w Alpine Amp is getting that kind of juice to the speakers and sub. Or the crossover setup is junk. Or the stock OEM Alpine speakers are of lesser quality. Or all the above. The sub gives semi decent bass at higher volumes but is totally drowned out by the rest of the system. The highs and mids are OK but not great detail.

I don't want a stereophonic ground pounder either, that's handled by the Borlas. No need for massive subs or over the top power or anything.

Regarding the speedometer, I haven't gotten around to using an aftermarket programmer to remedy the 5.397% difference. (if the speedo shows 60mph, the actual speed is 56.9mph) I've called the guys at Hypertech and was told it was compatible, but until they show that I can enter the correct gear ratio, I'm waiting. Here's a link to a tire size calculator: http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp

As far as my mileage, I've added rock rails and skid plates. I'm not sure how much weight has been added, but it's at least a few hundred pounds plus. When the vehicle was "stock", I was getting approx. 15mpg (90% true city driving), now it's about 14mpg. (after calculating the difference for the tire diameter) Honestly, I'm not sure if it's because of the added weight or the larger diameter A/T tires, or a combination of both.

Uhh, am I going nuts or would larger tires make your speedo read low?
IE, if your speedo reads 60 you are actually travelling at a little over 63mph.

Also your odometer will be off on the low end by 5.2% (for your tire size compared to stock). Same with your mpg readings. To adjust you add 5.2% to it.

I purchased a Hypertech Speedometer Calibrator. Long story short.. the ABS light came on constantly after the calibration. (the dealer reset it for me) The dealer recalibrated as close as possible. (approx. 2.5% off right now) After adjusting for the difference, I'm now getting over 15mpg with 90% true city driving.

I've called Adams Jeep in Maryland. (the ones with the tricked out WK2s) They use the AEV product for recalibrating speedometers and other aftermarket programming.

So did the hypertech work or not? I went to my dealer to adjust my tire size. He said he couldn't do it. I guess your dealer used an aftermarket programmer to adjust yours?
I think I may just hold out for Superchips or something else to do engine tuning. Would they also have a feature to calibrate for different diameter tires too?

Re: Mod Squad

The image at the top of that page says "2011 Grand Cherokee" ... they look exactly like the stock housings.

So, is this kit just the ring lights that you fit into your existing housing or do they send you complete new housings? For $200.. I'm assuming its just the ring lamps. How tough are they to install?

Thanks for the link CPT, LOL at your signature: Coming soon - Tstat or new SRT8!

FWIW, another member tried to bake his wk2 headlamps open to paint the housing but couldn't seem to break the seal.

Saturday morning teaser...
