Re: Mopar Rear fog LIghts

It would be nice if that link was a little more descriptive. It doesn't list parts included or anything. Is there a different switch or does it wire into the existing switch? Or am I just too tired and missing something?

Re: Mopar Rear fog LIghts

^^ Both

There is a detailed parts description in the mopar link, sans switch. I posted a screen shot of the Mopar parts list on page 3 of this thread.

As for the switch - your guess is as good as mine. Totally up in the air. Personally, I think the existing switch will function to turn these on and off, but who knows. There is no discussion of a switch in the Mopar instructions whatsoever.

Try emailing JustForJeeps. They are a dealer (but also run their great website). They've been helpful for questions like that in the past.

the VERY detailed instruction sheet that the J4J page links to shows exactly WHERE in the fuse box you are tapping into.

http://site.justforjeeps.com/guide/82212166.pdf

so goto wk2jeeps.com see if there is a fuse or relay list yet or maybe get out your manual. HOWEVER my guess is if you are tapping into an existing circuit that circuit SHOULD BE the existing fog lamp switch. The REALLY GOOD THING is that means you could that smae instruction to wire a SEP switch if you wanted to and you already KNOW what wire to use/

MY QUESTION: the KIT sells you NEW LAMPS. ARE THE ORIGINAL ONES he exact same? can they just be wired up like the original srt8 ones instead of spending 200 on this kit and ending up witha spare set of lamps.

Re: Mopar Rear fog LIghts

Having played with a fog light equipped car, I doubt the switch has much to do with it. It is just a soft touch button that does not seem to have any positions, just a simple press once from front and again for front and rear. I would bet it is a setting in the cars electronics that can be activated by a dealer with the scan tool.

Re: Mopar Rear fog LIghts

I wanted to get this kit till I read the install manual. Wow that's complicated just for some fog lights. I wish the jeep was like my bimmer. It was already prewired and equipped with rear fogs, all I had to buy was a new European headlight switch for 40 bucks and that was it.

Re: Mopar Rear fog LIghts

^^^^^^^^^yeah its SOOOO strange that they have unique parts for different markets. how NOT COST EFFECTIVE is that? always amazed me on the WK. EX tail lights. export MUST have an amber blink. so they made a whole unique lamop for export and a diff one for domestic. WHY NOT US the export one ON ALL MARKETS and only have one part number tail. one harness. OH NO. the penny pinchers decide that saving for cents on 23% of the ones we sell make sense NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IT DONT.

that was why I asked about the lamps......ARE the ones it comes with the same as the kit just with a bulb in it???

the reason I was asking is that there could be simple way to power the fogs and use as brake or turn or running lights...

thats what the WKSRT8 guys do. they ALL had rear fog lamps installed. they ONLY work on the export. so they figured out how to add the socket and they made harnesses that tapped into the tail light circuit without any modification PNP all the way?????

Re: Mopar Rear fog LIghts

If I'm not mistaken our's (That is the US WK2's) are shipped with reflectors in the place that the rear fogs are in the export versions. Now it may be simple to switch out the lights and then tap the harness into the tail lights instead of wiring to the fuse box etc but then you wouldn't have any control of turning them on/off
