Mopar Rock Rail Install

My Mopar rock rails came in last week and I had been hoping for just one more decent day before winter sets in forcing me to wait until spring. Well today, I got that day. Had the day off for Veteranís Day, wife had to work, the kids had school, and it was 65 and sunny. Let the fun begin. This was probably the toughest mod I have ever done on any vehicle. If anyone plans to install these, I strongly suggest a helper than can lift and hold 50 pounds. I wasnít that fortunate and had to make due with a floor jack as my helper. Not impossible, but very difficult. About 5 and a half hours of head scratching, cursing , and back breaking work, I finally got everything wrapped up.This would not have been possible without the help from the DIY video from spinxt.

Wow that looks really awesome. Do you have stock suspension or lifted? Also, have you had any problems getting in/out (hitting ankles on it) or have your passengers? Definitely a nice job you did!!

RRO leveling kit. I have not hit my ankles on it, but my pants do rub them when I get in. No complaints from any passengers.

FreeJersey, Looks good. Curious as to where you purchased your rails and price.

Thanks

Re: Mopar Rock Rail Install

They look nice...I think I'd get them sprayed to match the paint on my Overland.

How far do they stick out from the body? Do you think stock Jeep front mud flaps can still be used? Can you use them as a step to clean the roof during a hand wash? When you get the chance, could you provide a front or rear shot so we can see just how much the rock rails stick out?

Thanks!

Great questions...looking forward to answers and pictures. Another ?: do they stick out so much that you clean then with the back of your pants when getting out? I'm trying to decide between step or no-step rock rails.

Re: Mopar Rock Rail Install

They are powder coated...you have to strip off all the powder coating to spray them body color. Personally I think that would look like crap. Plus they are designed to protect the jeep. Paint would easily chip off the bottom and once it started there it would chop all over

They stick out very little. I have 275/55R20's with 1.25" spacers and the rails barely stick out past the tires. Not even noticeable from head on. Sorry, I don't know anything about no mud flaps. You can definitely use them as a step for cleaning the roof.
