Re: Mud Flaps on 2014

I like the look. Nice work!

I dislike my mopar front mud flaps. Where did you get the paint to match? Did you use Dremel to trip the flaps?

Re: Mud Flaps on 2014

Re: trimming.

I used two Irwin quick clamps to hold one mudflap on top of the other, offset lengthwise. The offset was the sum of the amount that I wanted trimmed, plus the base of my Rotozip. I ran the Rotozip through the lower one of the two clamped together using the upper one as an edge guide for the Rotozip. Then I clamped the offcut against the untrimmed mudflap, and repeated the cutting process using the offcut as a guide. I took the "sharp" edge off with a file.

The result was two very neatly shortened front mudflaps, with exactly the same profile as the originals.

Cheers,
Steve

Mud Flaps on 2014

Paint was from scratch wizard. It was advertised as OEM jeep colors, and it was a perfect match. I just used a jig saw on very low setting, followed by a wood rasp to make small corrections, and then 220 grit sand paper to smooth it all out.

Re: Mud Flaps on 2014

very nice. I appreciate the custom work and attention to detail. My mopar flaps have been sitting in a box as I debate putting them on. Part of me wants the protection from chips and to help keep it clean. On the other hand I hate the look and it makes me feel like an old man for even considering them. This might be a good compromise

Re: Mud Flaps on 2014

I think my side steps are doing more to protect from rock strike than the mudflaps.

Re: Mud Flaps on 2014

Our new JGC Overland Diesel replaces a 20 yr old Isuzu Rodeo. The Rodeo came with mud-flaps. I called down to NM and ask the salesman to put on the Mopar ones. They were on when we picked it up the following week.

I don't mind the look. My 1-ton Chevy Diesel has them, the Rodeo had them, and now the JGC has them.

But - then I'm basically an old farmer at heart!!

Re: Mud Flaps on 2014

They are practical Burt... but that's not for everyone.

Watch the height of the front ones... I found myself catching them on stuff I'd never even considered the slightest issue in my Prado (Tacoma wagon)! That's the reason I trimmed them down 25mm,and it's made no difference to the protection as far as I can tell.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Mud Flaps on 2014

How much protection do they provide? I noticed this winter they had a lot of snow build up. The reason I ask, is if my Jeep didn't have them installed when I bought it. I would of never put them on due to the non painted look.

Ever so often I go down dirt roads to a friends cottage other then that its road use only.

Re: Mud Flaps on 2014

For me I deff needed them. I'm spaced out 1.25" on all four corners, so I gets lots of slop on the rockers. Plus when you turn corners is when you'll destroy them
