[MUST READ] LED upgrade on 2014-2017 WK2(NO Resistor needed!)

Just installed them, WOW what a difference in brightness. These are pretty damn bright compared to the stock bulbs. Love the new look and how crisp they are when blinking.

Highly recommend these 👍

Is this real? So I buy them for my 2015 altitude, and just install like changing a bulb?
I have been looking into the vled but for $20 and no need for all those extra wiring and boxes. Seems like a no brainer. Would you recommend over the vled route?

Yup these just work on 2014+. I have them in mine and they work perfect and are bright and work with no additional hardware. No brainer.

I like the idea, but well built resisters get hot, and if these have a higher load internally, and in the socket, and if they're not made well, again internally. The "bulb" itself if made well has very little resistance so it's the board and parts that create the resistance. Why do they have more resistance than quality LEDs and is it actually a good thing. China isn't my favorite place for car parts. I'm sure 999/1000 bulbs are good.

I don't think these would really have a chance to get hot, considering they are for braking and signaling only.

Re: [MUST READ] LED upgrade on 2014-2017 WK2(NO Resistor needed!)

[QUOTE=lbyinchina;1328787]NO LOAD RESISTOR NEEDED for this specific brand! Reason? I measured with my multimeter, it drains 0.546 Amp current from the electric system so the BCM(Body Control Module) thinks there is no missing bulb. With a typical LED bulb on Amazon usually drains 0.15mA - 0.26mA( but this highly depends on the bulb you purchase) current which may not big enough in order to get rid of hyper flashing, that case you WILL need to tap a load resistor to the wire. WK2(2014+) owners, go ahead plug and play.

I just wanted to thank you!!
Just installed the LED bulbs, so much brighter and the instant on is great.
Saved me $100 and all the extra hardware and wires from the vleds.

Very happy with them. I feel like you hacked the jeep with these. 😁
Here's a pic, can see the fullness of light and pure red brightness.
Best $20 mod ever!

These look good but I was wondering about the heat load also. I guess they should not dissipate anymore heat then the incandescent pulling about the same load. The white colored version of these ones say not to use them in driving lights because they will get too hot. Brake lights and turn signals are usually not on for long periods but for me its not uncommon to sit in traffic with my foot on the brake for three hours. I ordered a set may do a heat check before putting them in. They look good though

I agree with you. My guess is there are some sort of resistance built-in the bulb circuit. Coz I did felt fair amount of heat when I touch the bulb surface. But the socket itself was designed to stand with a lot of heat(think about 27W halogen glass directly contact with the socket vs 6W LED butt contact with socket).
If the excessive heat won't cause any stress on LED internal capacitors and resistors I think we are good.

BTW, since there is no regulation or say a standard on LED bulb yet, don't expect any decent 'made in China' product like this. Not all Chinese products are crap, look at all the iPhone, Android, Laptops, etc all assembled in China and no doubt they passed highest quality check. But look at our Jeeps, assembled in North Jefferson Plant, Detroit. 100% made in USA. What about the quality? I think everyone has the answer.

Re: [MUST READ] LED upgrade on 2014-2017 WK2(NO Resistor needed!)

Thinking out loud here...why would you purchase a red led bulb if the plastic lens/housing is red? Wouldn't they be even brighter (even at same 800 lumens) if you went with a white LED inside and let the red come from the lense? I assume the stock/factory incadescent bulb is white/clear? Below is a link for the same bulb but with white SMDs. Has anyone tried the ones that I linked to below?

Thanks!
