Re: My 2011 project Removed Side Chrome and Repainted Grill and Rear Emblem

I want to remove my grill and finish it like you did. I've read that the bumper needs to be removed and also that it can pop off. I don't want to break anything. Can you explain how to get it off? Or if there's a video that would be helpful. Thanks!

The dealership says you have to remove the enitre front fascia. Is there anyway around this to just get the grill out? and help would be great!

How does one get the grill off without pulling the whole bumper? You said use a little force and it just pops off? I dont want to break it.

After you painted the rear, does the button still operate as it should? I'd think the excess would cause it to stick when you press it.

All in all, looks good. I have a black jeep and would consider going this route. I refuse to call it "Murdered" as I came from the era when it was called "Blacked Out".

All you gotta do is pop the hood and detach the chrome part of the grill from the black plastic vertical strips. To do this you have to either wedge your arm or a small flat metal bar between the radiator and grill and pop out the chrome clips sticking through then when you've gotten all the clips to where they aren't locking the grill on anymore slowly wiggle it out evenly.

IMHO a black/dark gray Jeep GC looks so much better "de-chromed and blacked out" than white or any other color. Why didn't you do a white grill and white rear to match? The whole Altitude look.

Thanks man!!!

Those xplore pics and your post just made me go out and dechrome my overland, I took off both side strips in 15 min and replacing the grill with a painted one I had was 5 minutes.

I love the way it looks now, now need to remove mirror covers :-)
