Fantistic thanks so much! That's a great explanation, I'm definitely not an electritian so I'm just wrapping my head around all this. Good news is my HID headlights and fogs are working perfectly. I'll let you know how it goes when I do the fuse tap. thanks again for the inspiration!

Nick

Anyways, thanks for checking my thread out and hope you all enjoyed the write up and feel free to ask any questions you'd like or throw out any tips on what you think could/would've been better!
Hey Deadserial, thanks for the photos and info - it is very helpful. I am considering an attempt at replacing the LED bars with some switchback LED strips like the following:

https://www.theretrofitsource.com/st...reselect=50183

Since you opened things up and have electrical knowledge, can you help me with details on how the wiring is set up for the LED bar and blinker in the Eagle Eye headlights? Do you think it would be a straightforward swap going from the LED bars to the LED strips, with the extra connection (wiretap) going to the turn signal power for the switchback 12v input? I would like to keep everything internal to the light and use existing wiring as much as possible.

Do you happen to have any close up photos of the internal wiring from the disassembly?

Also, if you were to do the HID retrofit again what HID ballast/lenses would you buy? Any good ones you would recommend that are cheap but close to OEM or better?

First off, morimoto is where I source all of my stuff from. They're starting to get more expensive so that a good and bad thing, good they are quality enough to charge that price and bad on consumer's wallets haha. I wish I used their D2s 4.0 projectors but they weren't out yet when I did mine. It's always nice using oem quality bulbs if possible.

As for the leds. They're pretty straight forward, I have a picture of someone who identified what each of them do. Inside the headlights there are 4 wires. 2 grounds, 1 constant and 1 switch if I remember correctly. You can literally just tap right into 1 ground 1 constant and one switch and your switchback strips will work great. I've been debating doing the same as well actually. I'll post the picture of the wiring in a minute once I find it.

Blinkers is the switch, leds are the constant, then the grounds

Re: My 2015 HID projector retrofit

Thanks bro, very helpful information. I wasn't going to replace the projectors, but now I'm thinking about it. While I'm in there I might as well.

As far as wiring up the switchback LED strips I'm considering disconnecting the Eagle Eye blinker and just running the switchback. I may also bypass the red LED wire and run it out of the headlight vent to make it easier to hook up the LEDs as DRLs.

They weren't too bad to retrofit. I got 2.5" projectors and stock they're 3" so I had to cut some mounting points down and do some custom work to make the shorter and smaller projector sit flush with the housing.

If I did the switchback strips I would disconnect the led blinkers as well. I have my led wiring routed out of the headlights and tapped into my drl fuse under the hood.

Re: My 2015 HID projector retrofit

Has any one installed the switchbacks yet? and if so how bright are they in direct sunlight? I was contemplating doing a full OEM LED/HID swap but after looking into it I decided not to do it.

Yes, there are several people that have had this done by RIHIDs.com, but nobody that I know has attempted it on their own. I am contemplating adding the switchbacks myself.

Here is a thread that includes individuals who have had their Eagle Eye headlights customized by RIHIDs.com. There are various shared photos of individuals who got the switchback LEDs installed - you'll have to read through the thread:

That's the only reason I haven't done it yet. I want something oem quality and it doesn't seem to be out there yet. Most pictures are taken in darker lighting making them appear extremely bright when they aren't.
