Thanks Snuke, as usual you are on the 'ball'
I am still very keen to replace the CD Player, checked price locally and fell over with shock at $485.00
My preference is to replace the bin complete with the extra tray and fit the light too. Just need to now get the part number for the tray and find the best place to order it from.

Re: My guide to replace CD player center bin with large bin

Just removed the CD from my Summit last night after a few hours of off and on tinkering. Now if I could just figure out how to make the LED inside the bin work. I had to stuff the two plugs into the corner by the right hinge to get them out of the way of the top when it closes.

So if anyone has figured out how to make the led work without splicing into wires please let me know. That reminds me I did not even try to start my vehicle after putting the bin in. Just stopped in the middle of posting this to see if all system are go. Took it out for a few miles and tried everything from nav to apps to air suspension. All is good. So please let me know if anyone knows how to hook up the led. T.I.A

I have been thinking about this for when I change mine over, what about hooking it up to the power pick up which was attached to the CD player? Only thing is how is it turned on, is there a switch?
Someone in the US should know.

There is a switch that some how opens and closes a circuit I think but I can't figure out how it attaches. It has a small flimsy spring arm that works by contact when lid is opened and closed. Not sure how or where to attach it.

Is it possibly at the latch near the front? Are you saying the bin comes with the switch as well as a 12V harness for power?

There are two wires attached to the back of the bin that extend from a plug attached to the bin which I assume is the LED. One wire has something that seems to be for attaching it somewhere and the other seems to be a switch that has a flimsy spring like contact for when you open and close the lid. I have to look at it again. One would probably need to look at one that is already attached to figure it out.

Check post #13 tarponbeach posted where the switch goes. Then you just have to hook up power.

Thanks, I forgot I had read that post before but I was unable to make out the placement of the switch and plug. Looked at it again and even took pictures of the two pieces and still can't figure it out. Plus I don't really want to splice into any wires if I can help it. All of the wires in there look really fragile and thin.

Re: My guide to replace CD player center bin with large bin

If anyone has the bin available I'd love to take it off your hand. I'm interested in actually adding the bin but with the bluray drive en lieu of the cd drive into my '14 Durango. Just PM me. Thanks!

Re: My guide to replace CD player center bin with large bin

I have purchased from the USA an extra genuine Jeep Centre Console Bin for our Grand Cherokee. It is available for $128.00 if any of our members would like to get rid of that CD Player. It is complete with the 12v power outlet and the internal LED light with switch and harness.
PM me if you are interested.
