Re: My mods

Looks good! Just got a black rear step pad myself (literally came today). Any tricks or tips to popping the old one out?

it's easier than i thought...

the top black part pops up in the front like in one of my pics. you can use something flat to wedge in there and get it started and then can do the rest with your hands. i'd just take my time with it. the chrome part comes off real easy, just pull towards you and up. the top black part stays attached.

i didin't find it lol... i bought the ebay $30 one. sanded it down and took it to a paint shop to color match it. the only thing about that one, it's a little bit less wide that the original, but still fits fine and looks good. nobody will know haha

they sell painted black ones but those are $200 oem's

one more thing i forgot to mention.

when you're getting ready to pop the top black part back in place after putting in the new step pad.

i used my fingers to pop those tabs into the slots where they go. i tried using a plastic pry tool but it would slip and didnt know how much pressure i was putting on the plastic.

it's doable with your fingers and you get a better grip and pressure. i did bend one too far back and it broke but you can tell because its one.

you'll know what i'm talking about once you get to it.

On and off in 10 minutes - really easy job! Still might get a gloss black one down the road, but this will work for the time being (bye bye chrome!)
